In 2008, inspired by Bebe Moore Campbell’s charge to end stigma and provide mental health support for minoritized communities, July was designated as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month by the U.S. House of Representatives. This month brings awareness to the unique struggles that our BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community faces around mental illness in this country.

Scalable solutions to transform the lives of people with disabilities, people in poverty and people facing homelessness.
About us
Services for the UnderServed (S:US) believes every New Yorker has the right to lead a life of purpose. Since 1978, S:US has been turning this belief into reality by advocating for people with life circumstances marked by homelessness, intellectual/developmental disability, behavioral health and addiction challenges, poverty, criminal justice involvement, and trauma. Our dedicated workforce of 1,800 provides services and supports to transform the lives of more than 37,000 individuals and families in New York City and Long Island. By delivering high quality services that address the complex circumstances of each individual, we help transform lives, improve neighborhoods, and break the cycle of poverty for current and future generations of New Yorkers.

For the second year in a row, S:US participated in the NYC Pride March on June 30th. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff, friends, family, and people served who represented S:US at the Pride March. This year marked the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and the 40th anniversary of Heritage of Pride, the nonprofit organization that plans and organizes New York City’s official LGBTQIA+ Pride events each year.

Andrew Zimmern, thank you for your incredible support of Services for the UnderServed.
“S:US is an extremely great example of giving. We give and take care of those who have fallen through so many safety nets, other organizations won’t care for them. And we do portal-to-portal services, which is how I describe it. Which basically means there’s nothing we won’t do for our clients from full residential, family residential, and all the wonderful services that we actually provide for them.” -Andrew Zimmern , S:US Board Member at the 2024 Dinner for a Better New York To learn more about the Dinner for a Better New York, please visit: https://lnkd.in/e6QPMyNA #SUSDinner4NYC

We serve them every single day with compassion, care, and courtesy as we partner with them to reach their potential. I don't think it gets any better than committing your life to doing just that.” - Samantha Magistro, Honoree and CEO of the Bronx Pro Group, LLC at the 2024 Dinner for a Better New York Make sure to follow along as we share videos to commemorate the one-month mark of Dinner for a Better New York throughout the week! “The long-standing relationship that Beacon and S:US has is greatly appreciated. We are honored to be there, to work with an agency as well regarded as S:US in the community. We do not take that relationship for granted. We value it and we work every day, the staff at Beacon, to ensure that the people that we're sending out, be they direct care workers, be they therapists, be they nurses, be they LPNs are well-trained and able to do what the individuals need in the community.” - Barbara Lehrer, Honoree and the President & CEO of the New York Beacon Group / Beacon Therapy at the 2024 Dinner for a Better New York Make sure to follow along as we share videos to commemorate the one-month mark of Dinner for a Better New York throughout the week!
