About us
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles (BGCMLA) is a scalable and sustainable solution to reversing the opportunity crises facing some of the most vulnerable youth in marginalized neighborhoods of Los Angeles. BGCMLA is designed to increase programmatic offerings and serve a more significant number of youth in Metro Los Angeles. Our mission is to create a safe space that empowers all Club members to Learn, Explore, Achieve, and Dream (L.E.A.D.). We fulfill our mission by offering nationally recognized, research-based programs and activities in three core areas: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. We believe in empowering youth to explore a future with endless possibilities by offering creative programs, such as new approaches to science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), sports and recreation, music, and the arts created in collaboration with our community partners. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles is a safe, stable place that ensures physical and emotional safety for all youth we serve. Click here for more information regarding Club safety. The individual Clubs that presently form BGCMLA have a deep history of impact in the most vulnerable areas of Los Angeles County. Our collaboration of Clubs includes the following Boys & Girls Clubs: Challengers, Watts/Willowbrook, Bell Gardens, and Venice. We also provide youth programming on school sites throughout Los Angeles, for more about our service locations, Click here. The smiles on their faces say it all. A huge thank you to the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) volunteers for their time, energy, and for making such a positive impact on our kids during Sports Day! From epic tug-of-war battles (turns out, these kids are stronger than we thought!) to creating colorful cheer signs, the energy was contagious. But beyond the fun, these positive interactions with LCLD volunteers hold immense value. They serve as inspiring role models, bridging the gap between what our Club members dream of and what they can achieve. #socialimpact #communityengagement #youthempowerment

Last week, teen Club members from our Watts/Willowbrook and Venice sites experienced immersive music programming, roundtable panels, and interactive workshops at the SiriusXM Studio. They even got a surprise performance from talented artist Kalan.frfr! 🤯 THANK YOU, SiriusXM, Pandora, and Cricket Wireless, for your generous support. These donations and opportunities help make music education accessible and keep our communities' love for the arts thriving. A big thank you to DJ Hed for kickstarting this partnership! 💙 #workforcereadiness #youthempowerment #musiceducation #partnership

We don’t get to choose our start in life. The circumstances in which we are born into are not in our control. The starting points for children can vary vastly, with some being born into built-in privilege and opportunity, while others born into poverty or other significant circumstances from the start. But last night’s Boys & Girls Clubs of America “Pacific Youth of the Year” gala was a powerful reminder that with the right nurturing, guidance, and resources, all children and youths can reach their full potential. 17 youth candidates from across the Pacific region, coming from states like California and Utah and military bases located as far as Singapore, gave voice to their lived experiences. They bravely shared a range of challenging childhood experiences, from navigating the foster care system due to having a parent with schizophrenia to coping with the absence of a military parent during key life moments. As I reflect on my own upbringing as a latchkey kid of hardworking first-generation immigrant parents, I realize how easily my path could have gone sideways. I didn’t go to a Boys and Girls Club where I could get tutoring, play sports, or take up music afterschool. Instead, I was coming home alone, heating up a can of spaghetti O’s, and doing homework in front of the TV. And somehow, I turned out okay. We cannot simply leave it to chance for our children and youths to develop resilience and grow into thriving adults. This is why I, along with many dedicated individuals, serve on the board of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles. Each of our clubs invests in the great futures of our youths, and last night’s college-bound candidates represent the ROI for our society. P.S. Grateful to the many sponsors and supporters like Toyota Motor Corporation | Kohl's | Panda Restaurant Group, and Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner, our incredible emcee! _________ Were you a club kid? #socialimpact #publicaffairs #ShastaAdvisory
