In an effort to continue groundbreaking discovery, the Indiana University Innovation and Commercialization Office has awarded three researchers $25,000 each from its Gap Fund, which supports projects and enhances the commercialization of faculty innovations. Molly Duman Scheel, the Navari Family Professor in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, and Keshava Mysore, an assistant research professor of medical and molecular genetics at the Indiana University School of Medicine South Bend, have created a technology to prevent insects from eating crops, which leads to economic losses. Dr. Elliot Androphy, professor of dermatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, is working on an anti-viral drug to address HPV-infected cells and cancers by making radiation treatment more effective. Renzhi Han, professor of pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine, has developed a technology that can be engineered for gene therapy to strengthen muscle fibers for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Preclinical biotech startup Eradivir is developing a new drug that could transform the treatment of influenza. Leveraging a small molecule targeting technology developed in Philip Low’s lab at Purdue University, their work focuses on a platform of immunotherapies for viral infections like influenza and other diseases. Is there a better way to treat the flu? Preclinical biotech company Eradivir is developing Purdue University innovations to make it happen.
