American Evaluation Association reposted this
I recently wrote a blog post for American Evaluation Association about the importance of culturally sensitive and effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) practices, especially in data collection with populations that may have experienced trauma. Trauma-informed approaches are not only critical in M&E but also have broad applications across various fields. Throughout my career, I've worked closely with survivors, refugees, and marginalized populations. When done right, our work can foster trust and support those we serve. Please read the blogpost here - https://shorturl.at/MZNBk Katie Zee and Jeremy Coats, Ed.D. and I also presented about this topic in the context of education programs in emergency settings at Institute of International Education. We explored how every program can benefit from a trauma-informed approach, and the feedback was encouraging. These practices not only enhance data quality but also ensure we are respecting and valuing the communities we serve. Trauma-informed M&E practices are more than just methods—they represent a commitment to ethical, compassionate, and effective engagement.
