There are those that do, and they make sure we all know it. And then there are these who just do (and keep on doing) and never say a word. BiNi Scoor, MBA is definitely in the latter category of changemakers. After a successful D1 volleyball career at the University of Texas, she used the same tenacity and competitive skills learned on the court and has leveraged them professionally on behalf of the Austin community for the last 30 years, which has had a massive impact in the BIPOC social sector. To ensure she gets her roses now, we are rallying the entire AALI community and her circle of supporters to help her compete in the HERS Muscle and Fitness contest for the chance to be on the cover of the magazine and win $20,000! It's the quarterfinals, and it's a very tight race. She was in first place earlier today but is currently third. To move on to the semi-finalist round, she needs to be #1 in her group by tomorrow night (6/27). Last week, I attended the African American Leadership Institute Black X Conference and got to hear from Ifeoma Ike, Esq. in a panel moderated by DivInc’s Preston James. Listen! I was blown away by Ify’s insights about shifting and challenging our individual mindsets to center equity. Not gonna lie, I walked away questioning my own perspective and thinking about what needs to change for me to make this mindset shift. Needless to say, I’d ordered her book before the panel was even finished, and I’m getting deep into it now. We know about fixed mindsets. We know about growth mindsets. How can adopting an equity mindset help us disrupt systems of inequality in our work and daily life? Looking forward to learning more! 📚
