What's Next for Windows Event 2024: News and Announcements

Will Windows 12 come out in ’24?

What's next for Windows? We don't yet know.

The last big announcement—Windows 11—was in 2021. Windows 10 was first released in July 2015, about two years after Windows 8.1.

What Is the Date for the Next Windows Event?

We don't know when the next Windows event will happen, but we could see Windows 12 arriving this year.

The Windows 11 event occurred virtually on June 24, 2021, at 11 am ET. Windows experts had patiently waited for a significant update to the operating system, but rumors about the timing were never precise.

What Was Announced?

The June event showcased a new version of Windows called Windows 11. It featured improvements to the interface, a new Start menu, and more. As of late 2023, the adoption rate for Windows 11 is around 26 percent, according to StatCounter.

As of July 2023, ZDNet reports that Windows 10 and 11 are on 1.4 billion devices (from a Microsoft filing). This number now reaches Microsoft’s goal of getting the operating system on 1 billion devices, although it did take longer than they had hoped (two or three years). Perhaps some of that discrepancy between expectations and reality could be related to the demise of Windows Phones.

The company says Windows 10 will reach its “end of life” in 2025.
