Introduction

  • British freelance writer and published author of spy fiction. He lives in Würzburg, Germany with his wife and dog.
  • Works as a tech writer for dozens of sites, as well as a copywriter, ghostwriter, and consultant for dozens of businesses worldwide. Has consulted with over 50 businesses in the past.
  • Writes on many subjects but is mainly an expert on iOS, macOS, SEO, and cybersecurity. He likes to teach people how to be safer online using common-sense techniques.

Experience

Mark has been writing since the age of 10 and published since the age of 14. He started writing for the web in 2004 and has worked for a multitude of tech websites.

Mark has done freelance work for several British newspapers, worked for a BBC radio youth show, and appeared in a BBC television programme about journalism. Thankfully, the programme has disappeared without a trace.

From 2007 to 2013, he was the managing editor of makeuseof.com. He wrote an eBay industry column from 2004-2005, got published in multiple print publications, worked for sites such as PC Magazine and Lifehacker, and even found time to become an English teacher to German students.

Mark is now the owner and CEO of the writing business "Obsessed With Books", which was previously known as "Highland Cow Media."

Education

Mark went to journalism college straight after school where he learned the basics of being a good journalist and picked up the requisite skills to get publications to look at him. Nevertheless, nothing beats real-world experience.

Mark is a big believer in self-education and thanks to the internet, he is always teaching himself new subjects. He is learning to program using Codecademy, and taking online certification programs with Google, Bing, Copyblogger, and more.

A Message from Mark O'Neill

Writing about tech is deeply satisfying on a personal level because it is a subject that everyone wants to know about. From the techno-geek that knows a lot to the stereotypical mother that doesn't know anything, everybody wants to expand on their knowledge of tech. If you are in a position to help them with that, you are King for a day.
