This article explains how to add music to your Instagram story. The easiest way to add music to your Instagram Story is to use the special Music sticker, which is available within the latest versions of the official Instagram app on iOS and Android devices.

Add Music to Instagram Stories With Music Stickers

Follow the below steps to add music to your Instagram story using the Music icon or finding it from the Stickers options:

  1. Open the Instagram app and tap the Your story icon in the top-left corner to create a new Story.

  2. Take a new photo or choose a photo or video from your gallery.

  3. Tap the Music icon.

You can also tap Stickers > Music to open the same music library. The Stickers icon is the one that looks like a smiley face post-it note.

  4. Browse for and tap the music track you want to use in your Instagram Story.

You can select play icons to preview songs before adding one to your Story.

  5. Tap 15 and choose the length of the track for your Story and tap Done.

Track length is limited due to copyright restrictions. Instagram Stories are typically less than 15 seconds anyway so this limitation shouldn’t be an issue for many.

  6. Drag the white bar to select the part of the song you want to use and tap Done when you've made your selection.

  7. Tap the Music sticker to choose a different display style or hide the information altogether.

If you select Add Yours Music instead of the Music sticker, you can pinch and resize and drag it to your preferred location. This sticker allows friends to add a song of their own to the story by tapping Add yours.

  8. Add other stickers, GIFs, and text as usual.

  9. Tap Your story to publish your new Story to your Instagram account.

Alternatively, select the arrow at the bottom right for more sharing options on Facebook, with close friends, or via Message.

  10. When you're ready to share or publish the Story, tap Share.

Where to Find Music for Instagram Videos

If you’re adding music to your Instagram Story with the Music sticker, you don’t need to worry about finding tunes since the sticker provides access to a music library of current songs.

Another option is to create original audio or an audio mix of licensed music for published Reels.

If you don't have access to licensed music where you live, you may be able use Meta's Sound Collection, which includes over 14,000 royalty-free songs and sounds.
