Google Pixel Watch 2: Price, Release Date, Specs, and News

The second Pixel Watch has a bigger battery, and more sensors

The first Google Pixel Watch looks and feels great, but its short battery life and thick bezels give even the most diehard Google fans pause. Google released the Pixel Watch 2 in October 2023 and, fortunately, some of these shortcomings were addressed. Personal Safety tools and skin temperature tracking are just a couple of its new features.

Google Pixel Watch 2 Specs & Features

The Pixel Watch 2 looks basically the same as the first watch, and you have the same three color options: gold, black, and silver. The band options coordinate with the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. You can choose between Bay (blue), Obsidian (black), Hazel (gray), and Porcelain at no extra cost.

Here are some other features and specs for the Pixel Watch 2:

  • Battery life and charging: Google has addressed the major complaint with the original Pixel Watch with a battery it says will last 24 hours, even with the display always on. The company also says that charging is faster, with the watch reaching 50% in 30 minutes.
  • Health sensors and data: Pixel Watch 2 has a trio of new sensors for health data: an AI-driven heart monitor, an electrodermal activity sensor, and a skin-temperature detector. These work together to track your sleep, stress, and other metrics.
  • Fitness tools: Pixel Watch 2 is keeping the Fitbit features of the original and adding Heart Rate Zone Coaching and Pace Training to help make the most of your workouts.
  • Safety features: Features new to the Pixel Watch 2 include Medical ID, Emergency Sharing, and Safety Check. The last lets your watch contact up to 15 contacts to alert if you don't check in from an activity (e.g., driving home) within a set period.

Size-wise, the Pixel Watch 2 didn't change anything from the original; it still has a 1.2-inch round OLED and the same dimensions.
