Microsoft Edge for Mac is a web browser built on the same Chromium code base as Chrome, Brave, and others. The thought of downloading a Microsoft web browser on a Mac might seem strange, but Edge for Mac is a completely different beast when compared to the likes of Internet Explorer and the original Windows-only version of Edge.

How to Install the Edge Browser for Mac

If you're ready to download Edge on your Mac and give it a shot, the process is really easy. The only catch is you can't get it directly from the Mac App Store (the only Edge is in the App Store which is just for iOS). To download and install the macOS version, you'll have to head over to the official Microsoft website.

How to get Microsoft Edge on your Mac:

1. Navigate to Microsoft.com/en-us/edge using your current web browser and click Download for macOS.

   

   If the download button doesn't say "for macOS," click the down arrow to select "macOS" from the list.

2. Click Accept and download.

   

3. Click Allow.

   

4. Wait for the download to finish, then click the MicrosoftEdge-xx.x.xxx.xx.pkg file.

   

5. After the installer launches, click Continue.

   If your Mac has multiple hard drives or installation locations, you will first need to select a destination for the installation.

7. Enter your user name and password to allow the installation, and click Install Software.

   

8. Click Close to complete the installation.

   

9. Click Move to Trash to delete the Microsoft Edge installer and free up some space on your hard drive.

   

10. Several notifications will pop up. If you don't want Edge to be able to send notifications, click Don't Allow. If you do want to see these notifications in the future, click Allow.
