What We Like
  • Innovative modular design

  • Allows you to configure the shelves to best fit your space

  • Very easy assembly

What We Don't Like
  • Hardware to secure the shelves together isn’t included

  • Less than stable in some configurations

  • Hollow boards with internal cardboard support

The Devaise 3-in-1 TV stand is designed to work with televisions up to 65-inches in size, and the modular design allows you to customize the layout to fit a wide variety of spaces and televisions. It has more storage and display space than most other TV stands, but built-in cable management is pretty much nonexistent.

We purchased the Devaise 3-in-1 TV Stand so our expert reviewer could thoroughly test and assess it. Keep reading for our full product review.

The Devaise 3-in-1 TV Stand is a two-piece shelving unit that’s designed for use with 45-inch to 65-inch televisions that weigh less than 75 pounds. The clever design allows you to reconfigure the individual pieces in a number of different ways, making the TV stand both more flexible and somewhat less stable than competing units.

We recently assembled a Devaise TV stand, testing it with a couple different televisions to see how well it works in various configurations, how sturdy it is, whether you should really trust it with your heavy 65-inch TV.

Design: Flexible modular set of shelves

The Devaise Versatile TV Stand is really two completely separate L-shaped shelving units. Each unit is identical, which allows you to slot them together in a number of ways. Devaise advertises it as a 3-in-1, but there are many more ways to put these shelves together if you’re feeling creative. You can even combine multiple sets to create the exact TV stand that’s perfect for your needs.

Each shelving unit includes two compartments, so the fully assembled TV stand has two rectangular compartments, two L-shaped compartments, and may have two additional open compartments, or one additional closed compartment, depending on the way they are stacked together.

Whether you have a simple streaming box and a sound bar, or you need a place for your cable box, Blu-ray player, game consoles, and more, there’s plenty of room to go around.

The one design flaw is that the shelving units are held together by nothing more than friction and gravity. The included hardware provides no option to bolt the sections together, so some configurations end up being significantly less sturdy than others.

Setup Process: Easy assembly

Assembly is a very easy process. The instructions recommend two people for the job, but most people should be able to accomplish it alone. It took us about 30 minutes to put together both units, and then some extra time to stack them together and start testing different televisions.

Construction: Hollow fiberboard filled with a cardboard honeycomb

Furniture in this price range typically uses the cheapest possible materials, and that’s definitely the case here. The boards that you use to build this stand are hollow fiberboard that’s supported by an interior honeycomb made of cardboard. This type of construction is stronger than it might sound, but it’s not something we’d be willing to trust with an expensive 75-pound, 65-inch OLED TV.

You can even combine multiple sets to create the exact TV stand that’s perfect for your needs.

When using this stand with a heavy television, we would recommend using a bracket to bolt the individual shelves together, wall straps to help secure the television, and then regular monitoring for sagging or cracking in the boards. Given the hassle, you’d likely be better off getting a higher quality stand even if it costs you more.

Compatibility: Adjustable to work with most televisions

One of the best things about this TV stand is that you can adjust the positioning of the shelf units to accommodate your living area and the size of your television. Devaise says that it’s designed for televisions between 45 inches to 65 inches, but there’s no reason you can’t use a smaller television. Larger televisions present some concerns, as we addressed in the previous section. The other way to use this stand is with a wall-mounted television, in which case it will work just fine with televisions that are larger than 65 inches.

Usability: Flexible design means it can serve a lot of purposes

The modular design of the Devaise 3-in-1 stand means that it’s suitable for a huge variety of living spaces and uses. It can be made to fit smaller spaces, accommodate smaller televisions, or be expanded to fill larger spaces. The open shelves also help improve usability, since you can use them for a functional purpose, like holding home theater components, or fill them with accent pieces, books, plants, or anything else you like.

Stability: Less-than-sturdy in some configurations

Since the Devaise 3-in-1 TV stand is composed of two separate shelving units, it’s inherently unstable in some configurations, and more stable in others. If you have enough space to lay both components flat on the ground, then it’s fairly stable. This is the best configuration for larger televisions. If you can place your television on just one of the shelving units, that’s the most stable configuration possible.

If you’re looking for a TV stand that’s more like a horizontal bookcase than a console, cabinet, or table, then you’d be hard pressed to find a competitor that does a better job for the price.

When the shelves are interlocked or stacked, they become less stable. This is especially true on thick carpet, which provides a less sturdy base. The issue is that there is no way to secure the shelves together, so accidentally bumping either one can cause them to separate. With a heavy television sitting on top, that’s a recipe for trouble.

To increase stability, you could use an appropriately-sized bracket to bolt the shelves together in the desired configuration. This adds an extra cost to the unit, and also the added trouble of trying to find a bracket that will work. Devaise does advertise such a bracket on their official site, but we were unable to find it for sale.

Cable Management and Storage: No cable management, but a lot of storage

The Devaise 3-in-1 TV stand includes no cable management, which is odd for a product that’s marketed as a TV stand. There is no back cover on the shelving units, so you can easily pass cables through the back of each shelf compartment, and then use cable ties to keep everything tidy. However, the stand itself doesn’t include any built-in way to help manage your cables.

This stand does include a decent amount of storage, including space for a lot of home theater equipment. Whether you have a simple streaming box and a sound bar, or you need a place for your cable box, Blu-ray player, game consoles, and more, there’s plenty of room to go around.

If you want storage space that’s hidden behind a door, this stand doesn’t offer any of that. The compartments are all fully open on the front and the back, so the storage space in this unit is more like display space.

Price: Too expensive for the quality of materials

The Devaise 3-in-1 typically retails for around $100, which is on the lower end of the scale for TV stands that are capable of handling large televisions. For two L-shaped shelves that you can configure any way you like, it’s a decent value.

The one issue is that we’d like to see higher quality materials at this price. Nobody expects solid wood at this price point, but other TV stands in this general price range use solid particleboard or medium density fiberboard, rather than the hollow particleboard-and-cardboard construction you get here.

Competition: Excels in flexibility but lags behind in sturdiness

The main thing that the Devaise 3-in-1 TV stand has going for it is that it’s far more flexible than competing stands. If you’re looking for a TV stand that’s more like a horizontal bookcase than a console, cabinet, or table, then you’d be hard pressed to find a competitor that does a better job for the price.

If you want this type of TV stand, and you want to save a little money, Devaise makes a version that’s almost identical, but it’s made of thinner boards. That version typically sells for about $10 less than this one, and it’s a fine choice if you have a small television or a wall-mounted television.

If you’re just looking for a decent television stand, and you aren’t married to the modular bookshelf design of this unit, you can do a whole lot better. The Ameriwood Home Carson TV Stand, for example, typically sells for around $90, and it includes both open display space and two cabinets for additional storage. It’s also significantly sturdier, making it a safer option for larger and heavier televisions.

Another competitor that uses solid medium density fiberboard construction is the Rockpoint Plymouth Storage Console, which typically priced in the $100 to $110 range. This is another stand that doesn’t offer any layout flexibility, but it’s an example of a similarly-priced unit that’s made out of superior materials.

Final Verdict

Best for lighter televisions or sitting under a wall-mounted television

The Devaise 3-in-1 TV stand has a certain charm in its flexible and modular design. It’s perfectly sturdy enough to hold TVs up to 75 pounds, along with home theater gear, speakers, video game consoles, and other small items. However, if you plan to use a large, heavy television we’d recommend finding a sturdier option or using brackets or wall straps for added security.
