How to Connect a Nest Thermostat to Google Home

    What to Know

    • Open Google Assistant, tap your profile picture, select Home control > Devices > + > Nest. Sign in to Nest and assign a device to a location.
    • Initiate a Google Home command by saying, "Hey Google," followed by the command.
    • Some Nest commands include: "Make it warmer [or cooler]," "Set the temperature to 75 degrees," and "Lower the temperature 4 degrees."

    If you have a Google Home device or access to Google Assistant, you can control your Nest Learning Thermostat via voice commands. In this guide, we show you how to connect to Google Home using a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation Nest, as well as a Nest Thermostat E, and we provide instructions for how to control Nest with your voice.

    How to Connect a Nest Thermostat to Google Home

    Once you have both your Nest thermostat and Google Home device installed, use the following process to connect the two devices.

    1. Open Google Assistant.

    2. In the upper-right corner of the screen, tap your profile picture to open the main menu, then scroll down and select Home control.

    3. Select the Devices tab and, in the lower-right corner of the screen, tap +.

    4. Scroll down and select Nest.

    5. Sign in to your Nest account to see your thermostat and any other Nest devices you have.

    6. Assign the devices shown to a location or room in your house.

      You can customize rooms later if needed.

    7. Now you're ready to talk to Nest.

    How to Use Nest With Voice Commands

    After the two devices are connected, the fun begins. There are several commands that will control your Nest and the temperature in your home. Say “Hey Google," and then say:

    • What’s the temperature inside?
    • Make it warmer [or cooler].
    • Set the temperature to 75 degrees.
    • Raise [or lower] the temperature 4 degrees.

    Google Home and Nest both connect to IFTTT, so use the service to create your own voice commands, as well.
