Profile images and names are an important part of any social network, and TikTok is no exception. TikTok profile photos and videos provide a visual marker for who uploaded a clip, while the usernames and display names on TikTok help users distinguish creators from one another.

Knowing how to change TikTok usernames and other profile details is incredibly important for keeping your account up to date. Fortunately, the process for changing your name, username, profile picture, and profile video on TikTok is surprisingly easy and can be done in just a few minutes.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to change TikTok names and profile images on the popular video social network.

How to Change Your Display Name on TikTok

Your TikTok display name is the name that appears at the top of your profile in the app. It can be anything you like, and it doesn’t matter if another user is already using the same one.

Think of your display name as your name in the address book and your username as your unique phone number.

Here’s how to change your TikTok display name.

  1. Open the TikTok app on your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet and tap Me in the bottom menu.

  2. Tap Edit profile.

  3. Tap your current name next to Name and type your new name in the field.

  4. Tap Save to update your TikTok display name.

How to Change Your Username on TikTok

Usernames for TikTok are all unique because they’re used to identify individual accounts. TikTok usernames are also used to create the unique web URL for your profile that others copy and paste to link to your account and videos.

Changing your TikTok username also changes your profile’s web address. If there are a lot of links to your account on social media networks and websites, you may want to stick to your current username; changing it will break those links.

TikTok usernames appear on video pages and are preceded by an @ symbol, much like usernames on other social media platforms.

Here’s how to change your TikTok username.

  1. Open TikTok on your phone or tablet.

  2. Tap Me in the menu across the bottom of the screen to go to your profile.

  3. Tap Edit profile.

  4. Tap the current username to the right of Username.

  5. Clear the field containing your current username and enter your new TikTok username. Tap Save.

    Your new username and profile URL are saved, and the changes go live immediately.

How to Change a Profile Picture on TikTok

Profile pictures on TikTok work in much the same way as profile photos or avatars on other social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. They appear on your profile page and are also used to identify you next to any posts that you make.

Your TikTok profile picture can be changed as many times as you like. Here’s how.

  1. On your Android or iOS device, open the TikTok app.

  2. Tap Me in the bottom menu.

  3. Tap Edit profile.

  4. Tap Change photo.

  5. Tap Take a photo to take a photo with your smartphone or tablet’s camera and import it directly into the app.

    You can also tap Select from Photos to upload an image you already have saved on your device.

  6. Once you’ve taken or chosen your photo, enlarge, shrink, or move the image in the frame by pinching and dragging it with two fingers. When you’re ready, tap Save.

Your new profile photo is now live on your TikTok account.

What Is a TikTok Profile Video For?

On the Edit profile page, you may have noticed the Change video link next to Change photo. This is an optional feature that allows you to upload a six second video to create an animated profile picture in place of the traditional still image one.

The process of uploading a profile video on TikTok is identical to the method for changing your profile picture mentioned above. Simply tap on Change video instead of Change photo.
