Del Rodgers

Sports Director

Del Rodgers is the well-known, well-loved Sports Director at KCRA 3 in Sacramento, CA. He joined the KCRA 3 Sports department in 1997 and currently anchors the sportscasts Monday through Friday during KCRA 3 Reports at 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. in high definition.

Del is a former professional football player, who was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of the 1982 NFL Draft. A 5'11" running back-kickoff returner from the University of Utah, Rodgers was the first 1,000-yard rusher in Utes history. From 1982 to 1985, he played for the Packers, and on December 9, 1984, he ran a 97-yard kick return for a touchdown against the Chicago Bears. After one year absence from the league, Rodgers came back and played two seasons for the San Francisco 49ers from 1987 to 1988 and was primarily used as a kickoff returner. Rodgers was a member of the 49ers when they won Super Bowl XXIII, beating the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16 in 1989. He earned a Super Bowl ring.

Covering high school sports is a very large part of Del's commitment to the Sacramento area. He says that high school sports has to be covered in a big way, especially high school football in the fall. "It's more than just the teams and covering the games," Rodgers said. "It's the fans in the stands, the volunteer moms and dads cooking barbecue in the concession stands, the bands, cheerleaders and school spirit. It's a vital part of our community, and we're proud to cover it every week during our KCRA 3 High School Playbook coverage."

Del is a graduate of the University of Utah and previously held sports positions at KMST-TV in Monterey, CA, KSBW-TV in Salinas, CA, KIRO-TV in Seattle and WXIA-TV in Atlanta.
