    Our Verdict

The Shark ION Robot Vacuum AV753 is particularly impressive for its low noise level, registering at just 58.6 decibels. This makes it among the quietest of Shark’s robot vacuums, keeping noise levels just below that of most conversations. The AV753 performs well on bare floors, picking up 94.25% of debris, making it great for tile, vinyl, and hardwood. However, its cleaning ability for carpets is middling – at just 52.25% of debris clean, it’s not going to replace a full-size vacuum for carpeted parts of your home or big area rugs.

If you own pets, it’s not bad – at 71% of pet hair cleaned, it does a good enough job to keep your home mostly free of hair, but additional vacuuming and sweeping will still be necessary occasionally. The bin capacity of the Shark ION AV753 is 0.11 gal, which might require more frequent emptying. However, this is offset by its compatibility with all floor types and voice control via Amazon Alexa, which offers a convenient user experience. The room-by-room navigation and self-emptying features further enhance its usability.

Compared to the Shark Ai Robot, which has a noise level of 68.2 decibels, the Shark ION AV753 offers a significantly quieter cleaning experience. Additionally, it boasts a substantial battery life of 179 minutes, allowing for extended cleaning sessions without the need for frequent recharging.

Despite its smaller bin capacity, the AV753 is an excellent overall vacuum. Its low noise level, strong bare-floor performance, and good pet hair performance make it a fantastic option for homes with pets, and the extended battery life keeps it running for long periods without having to break for a charge.

DON’T SEE WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR?

For those seeking alternatives to Shark robot vacuums, upright vacuums offer powerful and versatile cleaning. With strong suction capabilities and various attachments, they are ideal for deep cleaning carpets, hardwood, and tile. Upright vacuums also have larger dustbins, reducing the frequency of emptying, which is beneficial for homes with pets or heavy foot traffic.

Another excellent alternative is stick vacuums, especially cordless models. Lightweight and easy to maneuver, cordless stick vacuums are perfect for quick clean-ups and reaching tight spaces. Many come with detachable handheld units for detailed cleaning of furniture and car interiors. Their versatility and convenience make stick vacuums a practical solution for maintaining a clean home.

Vacuum Cleaner Test Data & Results

1. Bare Floor Performance Test Results

As the name suggests, bare floor performance references how well a vacuum does when it’s cleaning up tiles, vinyl planks, or hardwood flooring. Debris comes in a variety of sizes of course, and much of the testing revolves around picking up debris that ranges in size from cereal to bits of dirt to sand to a mix of everything above and more.

We recommend that a vacuum be able to pick up at least 90% of debris from a bare floor to ensure you end up with clean floors. Hitting a perfect score is obviously ideal, but the worse a vacuum performs here, the more work you need to do sweeping up or re-vacuuming. Missing debris is frustrating, and can invite pests if you miss bits of food, or annoyance if you step on something barefoot and hurt yourself.

2. Battery Life (mins) Test Results

Robot vacuum cleaners can only run for so long before their battery dies. Some models feature an auto-dock feature that sends the unit home before the battery dies, while others choose to wander under your couch and die. A longer battery life helps reduce the likelihood of a unit dying before it finishes its job, and helps reduce the overall time it takes to clean your home by taking fewer “rest stops” to charge.

Your robot vacuum should have a least a battery life of 100 minutes, but longer is always appreciated. Low battery life doesn’t overly impact performance, but it does greatly increase the amount of time it takes for your robot vacuum to clean anything, given it’ll have to keep pausing to charge.

Best Shark Robot Vacuums: Mistakes To Avoid

  1. Disregarding Suction Power and Cleaning Performance: Focusing solely on features and not enough on suction power can compromise cleaning efficiency. Shark robot vacuums come with different levels of suction power, so choose one that suits your cleaning needs, especially if you have carpets or pets that shed a lot.

  2. Ignoring Maintenance Requirements: Not considering the maintenance needs of the robot vacuum can lead to frustration. Check how easy it is to empty the dustbin, clean the filters, and maintain the brushes. Some models come with self-cleaning brushes and more accessible dustbins, making maintenance easier.

  3. Not Checking for Smart Features: Overlooking smart features can limit the convenience of using your robot vacuum. Look for models that offer Wi-Fi connectivity, app control, voice control compatibility (with Alexa or Google Assistant), and advanced mapping capabilities. These features enhance usability and allow for better scheduling and remote control.

  4. Underestimating Noise Levels: Choosing a robot vacuum without considering its noise level can be problematic, especially in homes with young children or if you work from home. Check the noise levels of the vacuum (usually measured in decibels) to ensure it won’t be too disruptive. There are specific models that are quiet robot vacuums.
