A nurse working in Cornwall has asked to be removed from the nursing register after admitting making serious medication blunders involving the residents in her care. Carmen Concepcion Williams is no longer a nurse following allegations that she made multiple medication errors with various residents over the period of March 2022 to March 2023.
A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) hearing was told that the majority of the errors related to not administering medication to residents when required and giving them the wrong dose of medication. The Agreed Removal Decision hearing on June 6 was told that on April 17 last year the NMC received a referral raising a concern about Mrs Williams’ fitness to practise.
At the hearing Mrs Williams accepted that her fitness to practise had been impaired due to concerns with her medication administration, but she didn’t accept being responsible for all the incidents which were identified. An NMC report said: "We investigated the concerns and the matter was referred to our Fitness to Practise Committee.

"No allegation against Carmen Williams has yet been found substantively proved by one of our statutory committees. On April 4 we received an application from Carmen Williams for agreed removal from the NMC Register."
The NMC said it had agreed that Mrs Williams ought to be removed from the profession as a nurse and agreed to her request. The NMC said: "In accordance with Rule 14 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council ( Education, Registration and Registration Appeals) Rules 2004, in considering Carmen Williams’s application for agreed removal, we have taken into account details of the concerns and Carmen Williams’ response to them, the interests of Carmen Williams and the public interest.
"We are satisfied that Carmen Williams no longer intends to work as a registered nurse."

The NMC has now dropped its investigation into the allegations against Mrs Williams and said it will review its decision after 12 months. It added: "There are no other good reasons requiring us to consider the allegations further at this time the public interest is best served by approving the application and enabling Carmen Williams to leave the NMC Register.
"In the event that Carmen Williams seeks readmission to the Register, we may consider the matters that led to this agreed removal further."
