Upcoming K-Dramas & Their 2024 Release Dates

This year, the South Korean entertainment industry has treated fans with many wonderful K-dramas. Some of them included Marry My Husband, Lovely Runner, Queen of Tears, and Wonderful World. As the first half turned out well, the anticipation for the upcoming 2024 K-dramas is pretty high.

Two big franchises will release their new seasons in the second half of this year. Sweet Home Season 3 and Lee Jung-Jae’s Squid Game 2 are all set to premiere in the forthcoming months. While the Song Kang series revolves around the final battle between humans and monsters, the latter drama is based on a survival game show concept. Apart from these two, viewers will also enjoy a horror series, Tarot, and a heart-swooning romance drama, Serendipity’s Embrace.

Sweet Home 3

Sweet Home 3 is an upcoming series featuring several A-list actors. It tells the story of humans turning into monsters after a virus attack in season 1. Cha Hyun-Su (Song Kang) is a lonely boy who later joins forces with his complex’s residents to survive. In season 2, he has also been affected but struggles to keep his humanity intact. Meanwhile, the final season will focus on Hyun-Soo, Lee Eun-Yoo (Go Min-Si), and Lee Eun-Hyuk (Lee Do-Hyun) joining forces for the final battle against evil forces. Pyeon Sang-Wook (Lee Jin-Wook) and Hyun-Soo will have a face-off in Sweet Home Season 3. It will premiere on Netflix on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Tarot

Tarot is a highly anticipated horror anthology K-drama of 2024. It consists of seven short, spooky stories based on multiple scenarios and themes of suspense and horror. The titles of the episodes include Santa’s Visit, Single Locker, Phishing, Please Throw It Away, Late Night Taxi, Rent Mom, and Couple Manager. It stars Cho Yeo-Jeong (Parasite), Dex (Single’s Inferno), Seo Ji-Hoon, Lee Joo-Bin, Oh Yu-Jin, Go Kyu-Pil, Park Ha-Sun, Eunjung (T-ara), and Kim Sung-Tae. Furthermore, the series will come with seven episodes that will be thirty minutes each. Tarot’s release date is Monday, July 15, 2024, on U+ Mobile TV. 

Serendipity’s Embrace

Serendipity’s Embrace is one of the upcoming 2024 K-dramas adding to the romance series of the year. Starring Kim So-Hyun and Chae Jong-Hyeop, the webtoon-based drama revolves around the story of two people reuniting as adults. In the final year of high school, Lee Hong-Ju experienced the feeling of first love. But it ended in heartbreak, which makes her doubtful about love-related emotions in terms of the future. Now an adult, she has become an animation producer. Fate plays a game as she bumps into her high school crush, Hu Yeong.

Hu Yeong is a 29-year-old financial planner who has recently returned from the United States. Will Hong-Ju give her heart another chance? The series will premiere on Monday, July 22, 2024, on tvN and Viki. 

Squid Game Season 2

Squid Game season 2 is set to premiere this year on Netflix. The survival game show’s synopsis reads, “Hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits — with deadly high stakes.”

Season 2 will see the return of  Lee Jung-Jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-Joon. The new members of the cast include Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Gyu-Young, Park Sung-Hoon, Jo Yu-Ri, Yang Dong-Geun, Kang Ae-Sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-Uk, Choi Seung-Hyun, Roh Jae-Won, and Won Ji-An. 

The streaming platform has not officially announced the release date yet. However, a recent video featuring Gong Yoo on WWD Korea features an update. He says, “You will probably be able to watch season 2 of Squid Game all over the world at the same time during Christmas this December. Please look forward to it.”

Meanwhile, the entertainment industry will release many more K-dramas in the coming months. Unfortunately, the release dates of many highly anticipated series are not out yet.
