RIP Sir Andrew Davis

We are saddened by the news that Sir Andrew Davis, the renowned British conductor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024, surrounded by family after a battle with leukaemia. Sir Andrew recorded exclusively for Chandos Records from his first album Elgar’s Crown of India in 2009, making almost 50 recordings and gathering countless accolades and awards in the process. We will miss a wonderful musician who imparted so much to all who worked with him in such a generous, self-deprecating and humble way. RIP Andrew.

Sinfonia of London win big at BBC Music Magazine Awards 2024
John Wilson and Sinfonia of London’s première recording of the complete original score of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! took home the Opera Award, while the same forces also scooped their fourth Orchestral Award with their album of works for strings by Vaughan Williams, Howells, Delius and Elgar. Described by the magazine’s reviewer as ‘a stunning benchmark for the digital generation’, this recording also went on to win the coveted Recording of the Year.

Neeme Järvi
The head of a musical dynasty, Neeme Järvi is one of today’s most esteemed maestros. He conducts the world’s most prominent orchestras and works alongside soloists of the highest calibre. A prolific recording artist, Neeme Järvi has amassed a discography of nearly 500 recordings. He has been a star recording artist with Chandos Records for over thirty years, his most recent releases, with orchestras such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, including discs of the three full-length ballets of Tchaikovsky and works by Joachim Raff, Kurt Atterberg, Saint-Saëns, and Martinu. Neeme Järvi has been honoured with many international prizes and accolades. Named as one of the ‘Estonians of the Century’, he holds various awards from his native country, including an honorary doctorate from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre of in Tallinn, and honorary doctorates from Wayne State University in Detroit, the universities of Michigan and Aberdeen, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He has also been appointed Commander of the North Star Order by King Karl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
