Magic or sorcery is an attempt to understand and exploit supernatural forces, using rituals, symbols, actions, gestures and language. Usually it is a power that normal people don't have, and is wielded instead by a special caste (wizards, sorcerers, witches, mages, etc.)
Different story settings and worlds often have different internally-consistent magical-systems, meaning that the reach, availability and power of magic will vary greatly by context.
Magic systems differ greatly from author to author and world to world, so you need to ensure that you have explained the relevant parts of your magic system so answerers can use it. Remember to keep an eye on the comments for people asking for more detail: addressing these comments promptly is a good way to fend off the close votes.
