Meet Anastasiia, a Task Group Commander in our Risk Education Department. She met her future husband, Illia, right on the minefield! "Illia and I worked on adjacent lines. During breaks, he helped me carry out cut plants and heavy findings. We later ended up in different groups but continued to communicate, and it all ended in marriage." Now, Illia holds a managing position in the Non-Technical Survey Department, and they've even brought Illia's brother, Andrii, into the HALO family as a deminer-paramedic. "Now almost all our friends work here. It's fantastic," says Andrii. HALO brings people together through a shared purpose. 💙
"HALO is a big family," says Yurii. "I am very proud of my son." Meet Yurii Holovko, who’s working hard to bring safety to Ukraine. Joining #TheHALOTrust in 2017 when war ravaged his hometown of Mariupol, Yurii found a new purpose in demining. Despite the challenges, his family's relocation to Brovary in 2022 sparked a new chapter. Now, Yurii’s son, Kyrylo, follows in his father’s footsteps! As a Task Group Commander, Kyrylo coordinates the efforts of dozens. "Working together with my son brought us closer, we began to communicate more, and that's good. I am very proud of him," shares Yurii, now a Sub-Unit Commander in our training department. At HALO, we’re not just colleagues, we’re a family. 💙

On the 28th April 2024, I set out on my running challenge (to run 24 half marathons before my 24th birthday in October) in order to raise funds for the life changing work of The HALO Trust. Yesterday saw me reach the halfway point as I completed my 12th half marathon alongside Hugo Delsol in London. Thanks to a grant from Trimble Inc., our 'Women in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)' project is helping women from communities affected by conflict in Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰 With the Trimble technology and our new GIS Specialist, Vinothiny, we're making a real difference. Vinothiny is vital in supporting our field staff to map explosive ordnance contamination in Sri Lanka.
This week, we visited our friends at Wallace Hall School in Thornhill, where we met Headteacher Mr Barry Graham to hand over 20 laptops that are no longer being used by HALO staff. We're delighted to be able to assist in the education and development of children at one of the schools local to the #HALOTrust HQ.
