The Serbia Investment Forum that took place yesterday in London was a resounding success, creating a dynamic atmosphere that captivated all attendees! The event provided a comprehensive platform to explore Serbia’s significant economic reforms and its emergence as a premier economy in the Western Balkans. 🇷🇸 🇬🇧 The opening speech was given by Jadranka Dervisevic Kitaric, the Executive Director of The British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce - BSCC The forum commenced with insightful opening remarks from His Excellency Mr. Edward Ferguson, the British Ambassador to Serbia, who articulated the nation’s vast potential and growing attractiveness for both foreign and domestic investors. This was followed by a compelling address from Dr. David Landsman OBE, Chairperson of the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, who emphasized Serbia’s robust economic landscape and its strategic role as a nexus for talent and innovation. Our panel discussions addressed key sectors: Infrastructure and Mining in Serbia Digital Transformation in Industries ICT and Telecommunication Opportunities Innovation, Sustainability, and Agro. The Forum culminated with an interactive Q&A session with Ambassador Ferguson, succeeded by a networking reception. Attendees had the opportunity to enjoy premium Serbian wine provided by NIKO while engaging in further dialogue. This forum not only highlighted Serbia’s economic progress but also fortified the ties between Serbian and UK businesses, laying a strong foundation for future collaborations. The forum will highlight how Serbia has taken important steps to implement reforms to attract investment and to become a leader amongst economies in the Western Balkans. Countdown to CBAM: Navigating Compliance and Seizing Opportunities The aim of the workshop is to introduce companies subject to the EU CBAM regulation to practical implementation issues and discuss the likely future development of CBAM, which will become fully operational in 2026. Initially perceived as a compliance measure, understanding CBAM's full implications requires time for both importers and exporters. This workshop aims to go further by showing how timely adaptation can enhance reputational and financial benefits for all stakeholders in the global supply chain. By aligning business practices with CBAM and broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) requirements for non-financial reporting, companies can secure significant advantages in the future marketplace.  The EU has indicated that only companies with CO2 reports verified by accredited bodies according to EU standards will be able to export to the EU, posing challenges for both importers and exporters. CBAM will introduce carbon taxes starting in 2026, creating financial pressures that will cascade through the supply chain, necessitating the implementation of robust reporting systems and the decarbonization of production processes. The cost of carbon taxes will be shared among suppliers, importers, and end customers. With numerous regional or national carbon trading schemes in operation, mutual recognition and carbon tax offsetting are likely. In conclusion, CBAM is a catalyst for businesses to align with the ESG agenda. By embracing this agenda and investing in innovation, companies can comply with regulatory requirements and achieve significant competitive advantages, ensuring long-term success and sustainability.
