As part of our membership to the Housing LIN, P+HS Architects were the headline sponsor of yesterday’s final HAPPI hour for the spring/ summer season. Katie Shepherd had the opportunity to showcase our expertise’s within Ageing Well environments - Creating Healthy Homes and Sustainable Healthier Neighbourhoods. Her presentation centred around celebrating the importance of the ‘In-between’ and how as designers we can curate spaces that instigate incidental meetings, create activity within the built form and ultimately use the built environment as a tool for enriching physical and mental health. Applauding the importance of the in between and how these spaces are pivotal in creating community orientated developments. The panel of speakers also included Faye Sanders from the University of Bath, Cllr Sinead Mooney cabinet member of Adult Social Care at Surrey County Council and Dr Alison Pooley from the University of Suffolk. The session was well attended by various interested parties all associated with Adult Social Care and sparked a lively Q&A session around the importance of planning and providing good quality accommodation to address our aging population. Derek Shepherd, a director and experienced architect at P+HS, recently attended the The PHA Group roundtable at Elevate's Northern Sustainability Summit! The event brought together property leaders and industry professionals to discuss key themes and changes within the housing sector, focusing on the future of sustainable housing delivery 🏘. Reflecting on the day's discussions, Derek shared... “Representing P+HS I was delighted to be part of the round table discussion at the Northern Sustainability Summit. A thoroughly enjoyable debate on the importance of how sustainable housing must be at the forefront of the new Governments ambition to build 1.5million houses in the next five years. Whilst there are many challenges to delivering the housing numbers, the right balance must be found to include for future generations to overcome climate changes.” For further insights into the key themes discussed, follow the link below. https://lnkd.in/eqMnZn9B #Sustainability #NorthernSustainabilitySummit

£20,000 raised for The Trussell Trust, 36 hours of walking, running, cycling, scootering and Kayaking, 220 miles covered, it’s safe to say we absolutely smashed our 40 year Summer Challenge! From very early starts in Manchester to night walking and watching the summer solstice sun rise, late night finishes, ice cream vans, home-made cakes, a spritely retired Managing Director, Chris Potter! Several dogs, a cat in a bag, building visits, stunning landscapes, two drones and everything in between. We did it! Thank you to the entire P+HS team who made this possible and to all our amazing sponsors who have supported the challenge – your donations will improve lives across the country, helping those experiencing food insecurity. A special mention to our directors who matched the generous donations of our sponsors, allowing us to surpass our ambitious target of £20,000 for the Trussell Trust and making us proud to be part of such a great event for an incredible cause. #OneTeam #Ambitious #TrussellTrust #SummerChallenge

Two of our four offices went head to head last week in a friendly-competitive football match!⚽ It’s always fantastic to see our team enjoying activities outside of the office, building relationships, and sharpening skills beyond designing outstanding buildings. Over the next few months, we have more matches planned to keep the competition rolling. The only question is: which office will come out on top? Leeds started strong, dominating possession and quickly racing to a 5-0 lead. Paul Hill, a Technologist in Stokesley, made some incredible saves, stopping Banaris Iqbal, a valued member of our admin team, on at least five separate occasions 🥅. With the score at 5-0, Leeds decided to rotate their team to try new tactics as they were experiencing some fatigue due to the high temperatures. These changes allowed Stokesley to fight back, and by halftime, the score was Leeds 7, Stokesley 4. Game captains Banaris Iqbal and Sam William Lambert MCIAT motivated their teams with spirited halftime talks, pushing for a strong finish. With 5 minutes left and the score close, Stokesley rallied for a late comeback, but Leeds defended valiantly, and the game ended 11-7 to Leeds. Leeds may have been victorious this time, but a rematch is already in discussion, so watch this space for updates! All jokes aside, a victory for one office is a victory for all. Well done to everyone involved. #OneTeam

Our Healthcare Leads were reflecting recently on some of the work that P+HS Architects have delivered to improve facilities for Maternity Services. Having seen Maternity Services across the country struggling in recent years with outdated facilities and staff shortages it is good to highlight these positive stories from Sharon Cook demonstrating where good stakeholder engagement and intelligent design have transformed facilities for the better with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It’s not always the big budget schemes that make a difference either! Good design principles combined with clinical insight produce valuable outcomes across a range of project scales. #healthcare #design #maternity #enhancinglives
