About us

Level 20 is a not for profit organisation founded in 2015 by 12 women working in senior roles in private equity, aligned around a common vision of improving gender diversity in the industry. We aim to inspire women to join and succeed in this dynamic industry by creating opportunities for them to interact and learn from the insights and experience of others. Our vision is underpinned by a focus on four key initiatives: mentoring and development; networking and events; outreach and advocacy; and research. We are supported financially by 119 private equity firms and over 5,500 individual members who together help create a strong voice for improving gender diversity across the industry. Our goal is for women to hold 20% of senior positions in the European private equity industry.

Level 20 CEO Gurpreet Manku is an inspiring leader in her own right, and has now dedicated her career to championing the Level 20 mission of ensuring at least 20% of senior roles in private equity are held by women. Catch her at SuperReturn in Berlin this week, or contact the team at home to join - or to support our work.

Excited to be representing Level 20 at SuperReturn Women in Private Markets Forum. Starting strong with our fearless leader Gurpreet Manku outlining the landscape for women and all of Level 20’s great work. Great call to action to get involved especially with our upcoming local focus groups to support our diversity data research. #superReturnWomen #privateequity #womenibPE

Strategies to build confidence and credibility are essential tools for our Emerging Talent cohort at Level 20, so we were delighted to join forces with new sponsor Apollo Global Management, Inc. to host a breakfast panel with Apollo's Women's Network (AWE) in partnership with GAIN UK.   Four female investment leaders at Apollo shared their thoughts on how they frame their understanding of the different forces driving the macroeconomic environment and gave their tips on how to leverage this skill for career development.   Top takeaways included listening to podcasts like Pivot or reading The Economist between flights.   Our great thanks to moderator Ana Cortés, Associate at Apollo and Level 20 committee member, and panellists Natalia Tsitoura, Claudia Scarico, Kelly Menendez Holland and Valeria Mollova.

And the prize for the most beautiful decor goes to Mr Fogg's House of Botanicals in London's Fitzrovia, where we hosted our closing event for this year's mentoring cohort. Now entering it's 10th year, Level 20's industry-leading mentoring programme goes from strength: More than 1200 women have taken part 83% of participants have since been promoted 93% remain in the industry Now that calls for a cocktail!

It was a glorious summer’s evening when KKR hosted our Emerging Talent networking event on their stunning terrace. The women in attendance were all incredibly impressive and sure to be future leaders in our industry. Our very great thanks to Michaela Wood, Sian Drew and Laali Vadlamani for their efforts to support Level 20 in its mission to ensure at least 20% of senior roles in private equity are held by women.

Being a small firm doesn't mean you can't accommodate an intern - in fact, it often means they have more exposure to the business and are able to make more of a contribution. We work with GAIN UK to match firms with young women taking part. Don't miss out. Sign up by Friday for this year's programme.

It's the last week for investment firms to sign up to be part of the GAIN 2025 Internship Programme. Rebecca Wood from Hosking Partners says that they found the programme to be such a success in their first year, that they're hosting an intern again in 2024.

A flying visit to Brussels this week for our first Sponsor peer to peer "Supporting Parents in PE" event on the continent, after a trial of similar small group sessions with our London-based small to mega cap firms last year.   The small but mighty group of Sponsors based in Belgium had a lively discussion after a preview of our upcoming market report on Family Leave in Belgium.   Some key highlights for me were: 💫 Tangible examples of small actions having real impact and shifting cultures, from #ParentingOutLoud to deal leads equipped to have great #OffRampsAndOnRamps conversations 💫 The virtuous cycle of more support for #OffRampsAndOnRamps, more take up and less "career fear" for both women and men, and better performance individually and as teams 💫 The pivotal role of both leaders and "people people", whether HR or *that* Partner with the lens and skillset to challenge established thinking on talent 💫 Bespoke works well, but the options have to be consistent 💫 The importance of listening and constructive debate, particularly in today's multi-generational workplace 💫 The sense of excitement at building community amongst our Sponsors   If you haven't already read our international Family Leave in PE report - the link is in the comments. And look out for the Belgian market short report, coming soon! For our Sponsors, more detailed insights and further resources are available on the Sponsor Portal.   Thanks particularly to Apheon for hosting us, Charlotte Vanden Daele (she/her) for being the energy on the ground, and The Riverside Company Waterland Private Equity Apheon Gimv and others for joining the conversation. And the trip was made complete with a high energy dissection of the current (and future) European legal landscape over tea with Jennifer Granado Aranzana, before I headed home on the Eurostar.   Not too bad for 24 hours!
