A flying visit to Brussels this week for our first Sponsor peer to peer "Supporting Parents in PE" event on the continent, after a trial of similar small group sessions with our London-based small to mega cap firms last year.
The small but mighty group of Sponsors based in Belgium had a lively discussion after a preview of our upcoming market report on Family Leave in Belgium.
Some key highlights for me were:
💫 Tangible examples of small actions having real impact and shifting cultures, from #ParentingOutLoud to deal leads equipped to have great #OffRampsAndOnRamps conversations
💫 The virtuous cycle of more support for #OffRampsAndOnRamps, more take up and less "career fear" for both women and men, and better performance individually and as teams
💫 The pivotal role of both leaders and "people people", whether HR or *that* Partner with the lens and skillset to challenge established thinking on talent
💫 Bespoke works well, but the options have to be consistent
💫 The importance of listening and constructive debate, particularly in today's multi-generational workplace
💫 The sense of excitement at building community amongst our Sponsors
If you haven't already read our international Family Leave in PE report - the link is in the comments. And look out for the Belgian market short report, coming soon! For our Sponsors, more detailed insights and further resources are available on the Sponsor Portal.
Thanks particularly to Apheon for hosting us, Charlotte Vanden Daele (she/her) for being the energy on the ground, and The Riverside Company Waterland Private Equity Apheon Gimv and others for joining the conversation. And the trip was made complete with a high energy dissection of the current (and future) European legal landscape over tea with Jennifer Granado Aranzana, before I headed home on the Eurostar.
Not too bad for 24 hours!
