Global Energy Group takes immense pride in its longstanding commitment to developing the next generation of talent through our highly sought-after apprenticeship programme. This commitment, along with the dedication, hard work, and eagerness of our apprentices, has been key to the success of our specialist fabrication facilities at Aberdeen and Nigg. We would like to take this opportunity to shine the spotlight on the significant contributions of our apprentices and highlight the vital role that apprenticeship programmes play in our industry. These programmes are essential for attracting, retaining, and developing talent across our region, ensuring a robust and skilled workforce for the future. Our four-year apprenticeship programme comprises both practical and theoretical work and culminates in achieving a Modern Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding Engineering. The apprentices develop the essential skills and experience needed to work in a modern industry environment. We take great pride in the accomplishments of all our apprentices. Notably, one of our apprentices in Aberdeen has been nominated for the Best Fabrication/Welding Apprentice Category at Tullos Training’s Annual Awards Ceremony, highlighting exceptional talent and dedication within our programme. Global Energy Group was pleased to attend Sumitomo Electric’s groundbreaking ceremony adjacent to the Port of Nigg, for their planned £350m state-of-the-art subsea high voltage cable manufacturing facility. Attended by Global Energy Group Chairman, Roy MacGregor and Executive Director, Iain Sinclair, the ceremony took place on the 15-hectare site, where the 57,500 sqm factory will be built at Nigg. The development has been recognised as the largest inward investment project for the Scottish Highlands. The designation of Inverness and the Cromarty Firth as a Scottish Green Freeport played a significant part in attracting the company to the region and represents a major first step toward creating a high-value manufacturing cluster in the area – a core aim of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport. Global Energy Group, which owns the Port of Nigg, has engaged with Sumitomo as their localised industrial partner for the project, which will lead to hundreds of sustainable high-value jobs being created in the area and is an important step towards Scotland’s transition to a net zero economy.
