This week we announced that we've signed our first Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA), facilitating the generation of approximately 2 million MWh of renewable electricity across a 10 year period. But, how do VPPAs actually work, and how do they benefit the supply of renewable electricity and help us to decarbonise our operations? As we continue to further decarbonise our operations and electricity usage, we are looking ahead and actively pursuing further VPPAs across Europe and South America as we continue to work towards reaching our SBTi-approved target of achieving #netzero across our value chain by 2045.

"No one business can solve these challenges, whether they're at the top of the supply chain or down low. That's why I think collaboration is critical, and how we can really achieve some of these goals through supply chains and working together." Tom Salisbury, our Director of Sustainability, sat down with Robert Baldwin from SAE Media Group to discuss the pivotal role that suppliers play in advancing #sustainable transportation. The conversation focused on the challenges and opportunities of responsible material sourcing in the #automotive industry, and the progress we're making as a business towards our ambitious sustainability targets. We've signed our first Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA), marking an important milestone in our journey towards becoming #netzero across our value chain by 2045. The agreement with global renewable energy developer Recurrent Energy - which will facilitate the supply of approximately 2 million megawatt-hours of renewable electricity to the European grid over a 10-year period - will help us to achieve our target of 75% #renewable electricity usage globally by 2030. Our team in Poland recently enjoyed a family picnic event - a day of fun, learning and community building, which saw over 2,200 employees and their families come together to take part in competitions, quizzes and DIY workshops.  We were also proud to plant 34 trees during the picnic, and delighted to raise almost PLN 2500 for a fundraiser against neuroblastoma. Well done to all who took part, and a big thank you to everyone who supported this worthy cause.

Cristina França Costa, our Global Sustainability Report and Data Lead, recently presented at the Sustainable Manufacturing Strategies Summit – an event that unites key figures from the manufacturing sector to explore sustainable manufacturing strategies, with a focus on the potential of digital technology. Speaking at the event, Cristina shared insights on how we’re working to reach net zero, covering topics including: • The importance of accurate data to achieve net zero • How scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions contribute to overall carbon footprint • The main drivers and challenges in achieving net zero • The significance of SBTi-approved (Science Based Targets initiative) targets and a robust net zero roadmap • The importance of working to ensure stakeholders are aligned and committed to these targets The journey to net zero is a collaborative effort, and one in which there’s always more to learn and more to do. It was great to be able to share some of our insights as we continue on this journey. Thanks to all who came along to listen!

Congratulations to our team in Slovenia for receiving a Silver Innovation Award from the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for their commitment to sustainable innovations. The award recognises the team's implemention of a new self-built automated measuring device that has helped to improve the reliability of error detection and the efficiency of the assembly cell, while reducing scrap parts and helping to reduce production costs.

To enable easier access to education for children at a local school in Jadavpura, India, our employees in Kadi last year set about revamping the school's infrastructure. This included providing two new classrooms which can now accommodate over 50 students. Last month, our employees hosted the opening ceremony to celebrate the new facilities with the local village. Nicolas Chailloux, VP of Commercial RNM and India Senior Lead, said: "Attending the opening ceremony of this primary school was a true privilege. Their joy and hospitality made me feel we were doing something truly meaningful for this community. I praise the team's dedication; their engagement and time have enabled the completion of this building within just a few months. Putting a roof over the heads of local children to host the beginning of their education journey will serve the interests of this remote community for many years to come." Initiatives such as these are an important part of our sustainability strategy and efforts worldwide to ensure we have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate.
