Access to medical care whilst offshore is a hot topic. It was great to see Timothy Roderick-Ellis AFNI at the recent Merchant Navy Welfare Board meeting discussing how as a business we support the wellbeing of our seafarers.
Today was the turn of the Merchant Navy Welfare Board East Anglia PWC. Thank you to Peter Sommerfield. from Peel Ports Group for hosting us in Great Yarmouth. Issues discussed included seafarers not addressing medical problems for fear of losing their jobs. Our International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) representative explained how they could help in these circumstances and we heard from Gardline Limited of how they support crew getting medical attention when needed. Thank you to all who attended.

🌊🔍 How long does it take to determine where and how a wind turbine for an offshore wind farm can be installed? In the Polish section of the Baltic Sea, Gardline carried out a survey for Ocean Wind’s BC-Wind project. The total duration? Over 8,000 hours! #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy
𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆… One hundred hours? Five hundred hours? A thousand maybe? How much time do you think it takes to determine where and how a wind turbine for an offshore wind farm can be installed or how and along which route across the seabed the (export) cables can be buried? Admittedly, it's not an easy task. That's why we'd like to tell you about it using a recent example. In the Polish section of the Baltic Sea, our colleagues at Gardline carried out the necessary surveys prior to the realization of Ocean Wind’s offshore wind farm BC-Wind. With four specialist survey vessels Ocean Observer, Ocean Vantage, Horizon Geobay and the Horizon Geodiscovery, many measurements and analyses were carried out at the turbine locations and along the route of the future inter-array and export cables. The Ocean Observer conducted bathymetric and geophysical surveys to determine the exact water depth, map the shape of the seabed and characterise the sub-seabed geology at planned locations for the cables, wind turbine generators and associated foundations. Thereafter, the Ocean Observer conducted a shallow geotechnical survey along the export cable route to measure soil conditions for cable burial. The other three vessels were operating in the offshore wind farm array area focussing on gathering data for the design of the wind turbine generator foundations. This deep geotechnical site investigation is necessary to exactly determine the soil characteristics and soil layers. This crucial information is then used to determine what foundation type and size will be needed to support a wind turbine reaching more than 200 meters above the sea surface weighing thousands of tons. The total duration of this offshore survey? More than 8,000 hours. So let’s call it a thorough job... #boskalis #creatingnewhorizons #survey #bcwind #poland #gardline #horizongeosciences #oceanobserver #oceanvantage #horizongeobay #horizongeodiscovery #offshorewind #advancingtheenergytransition

Our Talent Officer and industry volunteer Kayleigh Keeling spent the day with students from Mulbarton Primary School yesterday, delivering a full day of energy-related STEM learning. We are passionate about inspiring the next generation of marine professionals! If you would like us to visit your school, please email recruitment@gardline.com.
As Skills for Energy Manager at EEEGR, I work with our members to inspire and inform young people and adults about the range of exciting career opportunities there are within the energy sector.
What a brilliant time we had yesterday at Mulbarton Primary School, delivering a full day of energy-related STEM learning to 60 students, on behalf of our sponsors, OPITO The children demonstrated amazing teamwork, problem solving and communication skills as they built and tested wind turbines and designed a scaffold around a 'power station' using spaghetti and marshmallows! One of the best things about the day was working with our wonderful industry volunteers, who were all brilliant fun and added so much value by providing industry and career insights. Suzanne Allen was also on hand to explain nuclear energy in an incredibly accessible way for children aged 10 and 11. Thank you Suzanne Allen, Lilly Dowe, Gabby Waterman, Evette Sharpe and Kayleigh Keeling. Was great to finally catch up with Sam Jinks, Jo Milne and Puppy Patsy of Freshly Greated - CPP for a photo op! We've donated £3,000 to support their Summer Street Party in our community this August, founded by Jo. The 80s themes party will help support people living in neighbourhoods in the most socio-economically deprived areas of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston.
