About us

Cera is a digital-first home healthcare company that harnesses technology to bring care directly to homes, transforming the healthcare landscape by providing higher quality services at a fraction of the cost. Cera’s carers and nurses now provide technology-enabled services covering a population of 30 million people across the UK and Germany. This amounts to 60,000 patient appointments a day in the community, on behalf of governments, insurers, and the NHS - equivalent in capacity to almost 100 hospitals. With 150-fold growth in the past four years, Cera is one of Europe's fastest-growing businesses, recently passing $300m in annualised revenues. Cera has also gathered one of the largest home healthcare datasets globally, powering the development of cutting-edge AI products that have reduced hospitalisations by up to 70%. Consistently ranked as the UK's top HealthTech company, Cera’s pioneering approach has been recognised by numerous industry awards including Home Care Awards’ Most Outstanding Home Care Provider, a top-ten position in Deloitte Fast 50 for three consecutive years, and the prestigious Great British Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2023. Cera was co-founded by entrepreneur, physician and policy expert Dr Ben Maruthappu MBE. Its Advisory Board is Chaired by Sir David Behan, the former CEO of the Care Quality Commission.

This weekend, The Times reported on The Labour Party’s ambitious plans for a cross-party Royal Commission to address the crisis in social care. Building a new, more sustainable model of care for our ageing population is an urgent priority for our new government - and over the recent six-week election campaign, it’s been encouraging to see ideas from across the political playing field on how we can build towards better outcomes for this vital sector. A cross-party Royal Commission would pave the way for “a new kind of politics” on social care, as Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP has called for - acknowledging social care reform as an urgent societal priority that transcends political divides. As such, we welcome the potential of a cross-party Royal Commission to build consensus and create space for the best ideas to thrive. However, we believe the Government must avoid the trap of using a cross-party commission to kick the problem into the long grass, delaying the important action which is needed to transform social care. There are concrete steps which must be taken in the short term to begin the long journey towards a future-proof model of social care. Stay tuned for some specific recommendations from Cera on how the Government can make rapid progress on this critical issue. #socialcare #LabourGovernment #crossparty #royalcommission #rebuildingsocialcare https://lnkd.in/eZx37yMv

This week, former Labour Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair heralded technology and AI as “the only game-changer” for preventative healthcare and economic growth. Sir Tony said “every single person in the country should have an electronic health record, with their health data in one place, that you can transfer around the system” - in order to improve prevention, advance healthcare research, join up services and transform the patient experience.   New Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting agreed with him, highlighting “the lack of join-up in patient experiences” and the need for more innovation in the NHS, as well as a focus on prevention. AI can help us: ➡️ Prevent more illness, diagnose more accurately, and provide more tailored, targeted care, at scale.   ➡️ Join up health and social care, eliminating wasted time and delivering a smoother, more cohesive patient experience, reducing anxiety and uncertainty.   ➡️ Enable more people to gain access to treatments and solutions they need.   But critically, AI can also help us deliver the effective workforce and functioning system we need to rebuild our NHS.   At Cera, technology has helped us attract almost half a million new workers to a career in health and social care. We also use AI avatars to train these new workers to a high standard, at scale, overcoming geographical and language barriers.    The safe introduction of responsible, proven AI across health and social care can only help us deliver better care to more people. And as Sir Tony and Wes Streeting have indicated this week – it’s not so much a nice-to-have as a must-have, to enable us to rebuild our NHS and begin the country’s mission of national renewal.    #AI #NHS #Healthcare #SocialCare #NHS #LabourGovernment https://lnkd.in/eWF75JX6

We did it! We are spearheading the use of responsible AI in health and social care. With just a few hours left to vote in today’s #GeneralElection - what are the most critical issues for the next #UKgovernment to address? The #NHS, #healthcare and #socialcare have consistently scored as some of the most important items for reform during this election campaign, across each of the main parties’ manifestos. Our founder and CEO Dr. Ben Maruthappu was delighted to speak to the Daily Express this weekend, outlining how preventative tech and AI can save the next government £billions and play a critical role in the future of these vital sectors. Cera’s recommendation for our next government is to embrace the power of preventative health tech - increasing adoption across the sector, removing red tape and doing everything in its power to support and enable nationwide rollouts of proven tech-and-AI-led solutions. Through our own work, we have seen first-hand the role technology can play in reducing hospitalisations, speeding up hospital discharges and empowering more people to live longer, healthier, happier lives in their own homes. Cera’s tech-led model has enabled us to: 📲Reduce hospitalisations by up to 70% 🛏Free up 1,210 hospital bed days a month 🏠Allow 80% of patients to return home from hospital on the same day they are declared fit for discharge Building a new, more sustainable model of health and social care is vital to avoid an economic and societal crisis as our population ages and demand grows - and building this new, future-proof model must start with technology. https://lnkd.in/eQvtc77d
