Now, we’re expanding the Pass It On Project to help women living in countries where access to safe and credible health information is limited. While 70% of women in India report menstrual health issues, a concerning 82% of girls in Malawi reported having no knowledge of menstruation before their first period. Ever wondered how menstrual cycles and related symptoms change with age? As part of Flo's Science team's commitment to researching understudied women's health topics, our most recent study has uncovered a groundbreaking insight: from age 45 onwards, women experience a dramatic increase in cycle length and variability. Published in the highly reputable Scientific Reports of Nature Portfolio, this study is not only the largest of its kind, drawing on insights from 19 million women, but it’s also one of the very few menstrual cycle studies to include women aged 45+. Flo's study was conducted in partnership with Dr. Pal Lubna Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Yale School of Medicine. Adam Cunningham PhD, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist at Flo and lead study author, noted: “It was surprising how little research there is about women’s cycles and symptoms, with most research stopping at 40 or 45 years of age. At Flo, we are in a prime position to help address this knowledge gap given that we have the largest dataset when it comes to women's menstrual cycle patterns and symptoms. “Flo is launching a pleasure education program called “Unlock Your Orgasm.” The program’s aim is to help users grow their self-confidence, define their own sexual needs, and learn to communicate their preferences to a partner. “Post-Roe, women felt inclined to go back to track their cycles with pen and paper calendars out of data privacy concerns, but that meant that many of the other personalized insights would be out of reach. Therefore, the Anonymous Mode resulted in a deep sense of relief among the Flo users who now could track their sensitive health information without anxiety, and still gain insights about their unique signs and symptoms." “Not only is the orgasm gap between men and women real — so is the research gap.
