The team here at c2:concepts has been collaborating on a brilliant scheme which centres around the regeneration of a well-known building on Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street. The old Magnet showroom faces onto McLellan Works, another fantastic collaborative project on which we have worked in recent years. As you can see from our rendered images of MAGWRX on Aitken Turnbull Architects' post below, this tired 1980s building is about to enter the 21st century and become a key player in the regeneration of this famous old Glasgow street.

MAGWRX has been a great project for Aitken Turnbull Architects to be involved with, featuring a dynamic team and approach to producing a sustainable build. Our clients at LUJO PROPERTIES LIMITED, supported by leasing agents MC²,  have formed a design team to help reinstate city presence as part of the Sauchiehall Street Regeneration. A collaborative design process between c2:concepts and Aitken Turnbull Architects aims to retain the fabric of a city centre building with sustainable, low-carbon features. This is further supported by the energy-driven design proposed by Harley Haddow Engineers and project managed by MacKinnon & Co. Chartered Building Surveyors . The focused team is working towards an efficient approach that aligns with our client's vision of a tech-smart, sustainable building. We look forward to sharing more as the project evolves. #glasgowcitycouncil #investinglasgow #sauchiehallstreetregeneration   Rendered images credited to C2:Concepts.

Our team spent an inspiring couple of days at Clerkenwell Design Week, an annual design festival in London. It’s always a great opportunity to pick up on new design trends and products from a range of British and international companies. Featuring more than 600 showroom events and 11 exhibitions, there were also talks and installations, as well as chances to network with other industry professionals. At c2:concepts we like to be aware of what’s on offer for the range of clients we work with across a wide variety of sectors. #designweek #trends #products #international #clerkenwelldesignweek #beinspired

We're really pleased to tell you that c2:concepts has been shortlisted for a British Council for Offices (BCO) award in recognition of the sterling work our team carried out for The Student Loans Company in Darlington in the North East of England. The organisation has occupied the Memphis building since 2008. Built in the 1940s as a wool production facility, our designers were asked to refresh the space, hence the nomination in the BCO category, ‘Refurbished/recycled Workplace'. Our designs took contemporary working practices into account and employee needs, blending form and function. To support neurodiverse colleagues, we introduced biophilia (greenery to promote well-being), tactile fabrics, quiet spaces and other initiatives such as alternative work settings. We carried a number of discovery sessions with more than a hundred staff members, who are based based in the building. The aim of this was to identify which parts of the building still worked well and which required attention. This was a departure from the normal design process used for other fit outs, in which design is developed in isolation and then presented to colleagues for feedback. One of the key benefits of this way of working is the level of buy-in achieved and the opportunity for employees to highlight particular challenges. The SLC was keen to offer as much future proofing as possible and so our design team asked staff to think about how they may operate in five to ten years’ time. We suggested moving away from separate areas for various departments to a single fluid floorspace, with the same desk and amenities spread across the building. This allows departments to move, grow or shrink without having to make substantial changes to the space. We’d like to thank everyone involved in this project. – 3Fold provided workplace consultancy and furniture – Project management was carried out by PMPHarley Haddow supplied mechanical and electrical services. The BCO lunch to determine the winner will take place this Thursday 9 May in Manchester. #interiordesign #workplacedesign #accessibility #inclusion #neurodiversity #c2concepts #creativesolutions

Our Design Director, Jean Camplisson, recently took part in a fascinating roundtable discussion on #neurodiversity with fellow design professionals. Huge thanks to Material Source Studio Glasgow for hosting and facilitating this event, which was both illuminating and enlightening for all concerned.

To begin our roundtable discussion on #neurodiversity at Material Source Studio Glasgow, director and host David Smalley asked the participating group to write on a Post-it note their definition of EDI. Three different versions emerged. Equality, Diversity, Inclusion; Equity, Diversity, Inclusion; and Employee, Diversity, Inclusion. As mentioned in the write-up that followed our Manchester roundtable, ‘equality’ and ‘equity’ mean two very different things – as summarised here by David: “Equality is giving everyone the same sized box to look over a wall. Someone who’s tall can see fine, whereas someone less tall may struggle. Equity is giving the person that’s less tall a bigger box.” With EDI’s infancy in the professional zeitgeist, it’s perhaps no wonder that its meaning is still up for debate. As was also outlined in our Manchester roundtable on EDI, current regulation is open to interpretation. But as communication about what it could, and should, mean for architects and designers intensifies, is clarity on the horizon? Tying into our editorial and event spotlight on EDI – we continued the discussion over at Material Source Studio Scotland, bringing together six architecture and design professionals to contemplate neurodiversity, and the crucial need to offer flexibility. Chair Material Source director, David Smalley, guided the discussion from definitions to design considerations and insight gathering initiatives. Viewpoints were offered from a wide range of perspectives, peppered with personal anecdotes to bring the conversation to life. Huge thanks to Jean Camplisson, design director, c2:concepts; Atepheh Amid, associate director, AECOM; marcella coia, interior designer, Dimora_Interiors; Lindsey Wilson, senior designer, AtkinsRéalis; Donny Mclean, business executive, McLaughlin & Harvey WorkSpace; Shona Common, architect, 3DReid Ltd; and Julie Hillhouse, housing key account manager, Altro Limited for taking part. And to our supporters for the event, Altro Limited. ➡️ Read the full write-up here: https://lnkd.in/dBwmu6RX 📸 Lewis Cannon #EDI #equality #equity #neurodiversity #inclusion #culture #workplace #flexibility #architecture #design #builtenvironment #commercialinteriors

It’s always gratifying to be recognised for your work. This year we have been shortlisted by the British Council for Offices (BCO) for two projects, firstly for designing Social Security Scotland’s (SSS) head office in Dundee, Agnes Husband House, and also Student Loans Company in Darlington.   The British Council for Offices awards ceremony for the Scottish projects is this Friday lunchtime in Glasgow.   Agnes Husband was Dundee’s first female councillor and a suffragette who campaigned for the disadvantaged, women’s rights and the unemployed.   We have been nominated for the category ‘fit out of a workspace’ for the design of the building which is in a fantastic location overlooking the V&A Dundee, the RRS Discovery and its museum, Discovery Point Dundee, on the waterfront.    SSS, an executive agency of the Scottish Government, was established to deliver Social Security benefits to people in Scotland, including disability benefits.   The client was keen to move away from stereotypical government office space and to create, instead, fully accessible, inclusive surroundings which meet the needs of the people coming into the building.   Consultation with a disability group to give us a greater understanding of diverse needs, be that travelling around the building smoothly, or easy navigation for people with visual impairments, was integral to our design process.   We were asked to ensure the ground floor offered flexibility of use, hence the collaboration and multi-functional meeting spaces which can be opened to create a ’town-hall’ style space with tiered seating.   The ground floor includes a dedicated drop-in space with gender neutral toilets, shower facilities and a changing facility for any visitor to use. There is also a large bike storage area.   On each of the five office floors there are points with views over the V&A. There are also collaboration, hybrid working areas and meeting facilities.   The building has two multi-faith rooms, quiet working rooms, booths for video calls and alternative work settings.   We look forward to meeting all our friends, colleagues and fellow nominees who contribute to making Scotland a creative place to live and work. #interiordesign #publicsector #accessibility #inclusion #Dundee

We’ve really enjoyed redesigning the new reception area to the building and the top floor space for Aptia Group’s first office at 145 St Vincent Street in Glasgow, a listed building.   Aptia is a dedicated pension and benefits administration provider and c2:concepts is the workplace designer in a team chosen by the landlord, Robt. Jones Holdings Ltd. At the moment we’re in the process of bringing the exciting roof terrace design to life. Tenants of the building are really excited about this given that spring is in the air!   We worked closely with Christopher N. B. Ross of RJH to create a tailored layout that includes a large breakout/town hall space with banquette seating and an island with wine chillers for socialising and relaxing after work.   There are three meeting rooms and two Zoom rooms for private calls.   Our design also includes a client front-of-house area with coffee facilities, comfortable seating and a moss wall.    It’s always a pleasure to work in partnership with RJH, where their focus is on creative working spaces which foster productivity and well-being. #corporateinteriordesign #workplacedesign #Glasgow #creativity

The c2:concepts team has been appointed as the design partner for a new Sikh temple near Reading. This exciting opportunity was brought to us via Mandhir Singh Sidhu, head of fit out contractor, Hubbl.   Currently a two-storey 1980s office building in the village of Winnersh, Berkshire, we were asked by the trustees of the Gurdwara to produce a feasibility study of initial drawings to convert the premises into a contemporary worship space with a range of other facilities.   This includes a large worship hall which can accommodate 550 people, as well as a dining room suitable for 350 people, a full kitchen, classrooms, library, community support spaces and a residential wing.   The project design involves stripping out all existing ceilings and exposing a pitched roof. Extra insulation, solar panels, air source heat pumps with underfloor heating are all part of the upgrade.   Given that the temple is a registered charity, funding is being generated entirely by donations. Fundraising has even travelled as far as India where our initial concept drawings have been broadcast on Punjabi TV.   Local companies are being invited to be part of the strip-out and construction process, as well as supplying materials.   This fantastic model and fly-through of the temple below has been produced to help people visualise this exciting new space and encourage financial support.

Waheguru 🙏 ... Exciting news to share! Hubbl has been working with Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Reading to convert a 20k ft2 1980's office building into a new Sikh Temple for the local community. The Gurdwara is a charity and place of worship that offers free hot meals to anyone in need. Hubbl is proud to be the Design & Build principal, partnering with c2:concepts on all architectural detailing, in collaboration with Centrespace Design and Magnus Opifex. I am a local Sikh and thrilled to be involved in this prestigious project to create the new Gurdwara for future generations to enjoy. The MD of C2, Mark Alcorn, grandfather to Magnus Singh, along with David Kiernan, have collaborated with the Sikh community for the past 6 months to progress this project along. Please take a moment to watch the video and let us know what you think. As a charity, the Gurdwara depends on donations to continue their good work. If you are able to contribute, a link to donations is available in the comments. Thank you for supporting such a worthy cause. #Gurdwara #Sikh #Vaisakhi #Charity #Khalsa #DesignBuild #Hubbl #Temple #PlaceOfWorship #FitOut #Architecture #Interiors #C2Concepts #OfficeConversion #Construction #Waheguru #NonProfit #MandhirSidhu
