With the UK still seeing lower levels of labour market economic activity than pre-pandemic, the challenge for the North East is that the divergence in growth between the region and the southern parts of the country is now growing. With 15% of employment in the North East being in Manufacturing, the recent announcement by Nissan that they will invest 2 Billion into a plant at Sunderland is welcome news, equally, for the region to catch up, more is needed.
