👀 What Does Ukrainian AI Need to Achieve Global Leadership? ⠀ For the first time in Ukrainian tech industry history, members of the Diia.City United Strategic Board - Roosh, and AI HOUSE, with support from Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, have conducted an in-depth study on this topic. ⠀ 🤩Optimistic Findings: ⠀ Talent: Ukraine ranks second in Europe for the number of IT talents. Specifically, 5200 professionals specialize in AI, with the potential to grow to 22,500. The most popular roles are Data Scientist and ML Engineer. ⠀ Companies: The number of AI companies reached 243 by 2023. Now we know the numbers! ⠀ Products: Ukraine’s enterprise software development surpasses European levels, indicating our potential to not only replace russian software but also compete globally. ⠀ Investment: Funding for Ukrainian AI grew by 35% in 2023. Our goal is to increase this even further this year. ⠀ 🛠 Challenges in the AI Sector: ⠀ Consolidation: In 2023, the sector remains fragmented, lacking integration with the government and within itself. Our association aims to change this in 2024 and beyond. ⠀ Global Presence: 76% of the 243 AI companies founded by Ukrainians operate abroad, resulting in significant capital loss within Ukraine. We're working to address this. ⠀ To foster groundbreaking tech companies of Ukrainian origin, we need more incentives for them to operate in Ukraine, such as the legal and tax frameworks provided by Diia City. ⠀ 🤝 At Diia.City United, we are already addressing the critical industry issues highlighted in this study and identified through our collective efforts. 🦄 The Unicorn Startup Season is Open! ⠀ After a two-year silence, the venture capital market is reviving with at least 53 Ukrainian tech startups raising $228.8 million from investors in May and June alone! ⠀ Forbes Ukraine has done an excellent analysis of Ukrainian venture capital for Q2 2024 (see the first comment). Despite the war and blackouts, Ukrainian tech business continues to grow: ⠀ 🦾 6 startups with Ukrainian founders have already achieved unicorn status 🦾 Ukrainian startups have raised $270.8 million in the first half of 2024 🦾 Ukraine ranks 2nd in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) for the number of AI companies, according to AI HOUSE and Roosh ⠀ The top three Ukrainian-founded startups by investment volume: 🥇 Creatio by Katherine Kostereva 🥈 Fintech Farm by Dmytro Dubilet 🥉 Bionic prosthetics manufacturer Esper Bionics by @dimagazda, Anna Believantseva, Ihor Ilchenko 🥉 AI business assistant Portal AI by Volodymyr Panchenko ⠀ By the end of the year, it is predicted that 1-2 more unicorns with Ukrainian roots will emerge. Amid the massive attacks by russia this week, we want to reiterate that Ukraine, and Ukrainian businesses in particular, should have no ties with the aggressor nation. One of the key priorities of Diia.City United is the development of the tech industry, promotion of excellent Ukrainian products, and ensuring that a full-fledged national software market operates in Ukraine. Starting in September, we are launching the Ukrainian software development committee within Diia.City United. This committee will facilitate dialogue between Ukrainian software developers and the government and business community on mutual needs, while also advocating for the use of alternative software. This is one of many steps towards economic independence and victory. Thus, Diia.City United supports the Manifesto to Reject russian Software. Among the initiators of this manifesto is GigaCloud, a member of our Association, and its founder and member of the Diia.City United Strategic Board, Nazariy Kurochko. "Banning Russian software is not enough. It's crucial to show Ukrainian entrepreneurs what to replace it with, specifically high-quality Ukrainian alternatives. For this, the state and businesses must work together to develop our own software," Nazariy Kurochko notes. This is not only important for Ukrainian entrepreneurs but for the entire civilized world. Even updating russian software channels money into the budget of the terrorist state that bombs Ukrainian cities and kills people. It's been the fifth air attack in Kyiv already. Ukrainian air defenders intercepted another russian threat not far from our office. Our Diia.City United team is working from the bomb shelter. The morning has been horrific all over Ukraine, with devastating aftermath: - Over 40 Russian missiles targeted Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Slovyansk, and Kramatorsk. - According to Ukrainian authorities, adults and children have been killed—20 lives taken away and 50 injured by 1 p.m. Invaders targeted the largest medical center for children in Ukraine and a maternity hospital. Volunteers and rescuers are working tirelessly to clear the rubble and help the victims. Once again, critical infrastructure has been damaged. Today, in Kyiv alone, the invaders destroyed two substations across several districts. This has a serious impact on the stability of our power grids and hampers our ability to operate consistently. But nothwithstanding blackouts Ukraine's tech industry is fully operational and continues to show resilience. Please never underestimate the value of Ukrainian effort and support us.
