Jul 8, 2024It’s ironic that the 750-metre road that leads to the St Mark’s Cathedral, hence the name Church Street, did not get a status elevation as intended despite spending approximately Rs 17 crore towards its resurrection, in terms of building a paved carriageway, boxed sidewalks and subsequent repairs. Plagued by garbage again, and hawkers, its plight poses a fundamental question to city planners as well as law enforcement agencies — how do we not only redevelop but also plan to manage those marquee properties that collectively make up ‘Brand Bengaluru’?
