The monsoon season - a time of relief from the sweltering heat, but also a period of turmoil for our tresses. The air is heavy with humidity, which strips our hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. The excess moisture creates a perfect storm for fungal infections to take hold, weakening our
hair roots and leading to alarming hair loss.
As we step out into the rain, our hair is assaulted by the elements. The moisture in the air seeps into our strands, causing them to swell and become fragile. The winds whip through our locks, tangling and knotting them, while the rain pounds down, threatening to wash away our very scalp. It's a wonder our hair survives at all!
But survive it does, thanks to our diligent care. Washing our hair too frequently can be a recipe for disaster, as it strips our locks of their natural moisture, leaving them feeling like straw. And if we don't dry our hair properly, it can become a breeding ground for bacteria and infections, leading to a tangled web of hair woes.
According to Ritu Khariyan, cosmetologist, Delhi wellness clinics, Greater Kailash and Noida, “To tame the mane and keep our hair healthy during the monsoon season, we must take extra care. First, we must be mindful of our washing routine. Washing our hair only when necessary, using a mild, sulfur-free
shampoo that's as gentle as a summer breeze. We must avoid using hot water, which can strip our hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. Instead, we opt for warm water, which cleans our hair without stripping it of its natural moisture.”
Next, we must be cautious with our hair styling tools. Avoid using heat styling products and sauna steam during the monsoon season, as they can dry out our hair like a parched desert landscape. Instead, we let our hair air-dry, or use a
microfiber towel to gently blot out excess moisture. We avoid tying our hair too tight, as this can cause
hair breakage and even hair loss.
But it's not all doom and gloom! The monsoon season also offers us the perfect opportunity to nourish our hair with some much-needed TLC. We treat our hair to a weekly oil massage, nourishing it with the richness of a summer harvest. We leave the oil on for a few hours or overnight, like a gentle summer rain, allowing our hair to soak up all the benefits.
Homecare remedies to treat hairfall
As we navigate the challenges of the monsoon season, we remember to be gentle with our hair. We avoid using harsh chemicals or rough combs, which can damage our hair and cause breakage. Instead, we use soft,
gentle combs and brushes, which detangle our hair with ease. We wear soft, breathable scarves to protect our hair from the elements, and avoid tying our hair too tight, which can cause hair loss.
By following these tips, we can keep our hair strong, healthy, and full of life, even in the midst of the monsoon mayhem. So let the rains pour down, and the winds blow strong - our hair will emerge from the storm, shiny, healthy, and full of life!
