Members of the tribal community were upbeat after tribal leader Mohan Majhi was named the chief minister of the state. Out of BJP’s 19 scheduled tribe (ST) MLAs, Majhi’s pick for the CM post sent out a positive message among the tribal community.

Majhi is the third tribal leader to become chief minister after Giridhar Gamang and Hemananda Biswal. The assembly will see 33 MLAs belonging to the tribal community.

Odisha New CM Live Updates: Staffers’ leaves suspended till June 30

With the BJP all set to form its first govt in Odisha on Wednesday, the state administration on Tuesday suspended leaves for all employees until June 30, in anticipation for a flurry of activities across departments.

The general administration and public grievances department on Tuesday wrote to the secretaries and heads of all departments and district collectors to strictly comply with the order. Odisha New CM Live Updates: First-time MLA’s journey to deputy CM one of perseverance

A first-time MLA from Nimapara constituency in Puri district, Pravati Parida is one of the five women legislators among BJP’s 78 MLAs in the assembly. She defeated BJD candidate Dillip Kumar Nayak with a margin of over 4,588 votes.

Her political journey started in 1997 when she joined the BJP. However, she left the party and fought her first election as an Independent after the BJP denied her a ticket for the 2009 assembly election.

She lost to BJD’s Samir Ranjan Dash. She returned to BJP and contested the 2014 and 2019 polls on the party ticket, losing both times to Dash.

But the party kept faith in Parida and her strong grassroots connection. She repaid that trust by defeating the BJD candidate with the help of Dash, who
joined the BJP after being denied a ticket, in the 2024 polls.

Parida served as president of BJP’s Mahila Morcha in the state and has been vocal about issues related to women and children in the state. A post-graduate in public administration and a law graduate from Utkal University, Parida had enrolled as an advocate in Orissa high court. Her husband Shyam Sundar Nayak is a retired government servant.

Under her guidance, the state women’s wing had carried out an 11-day-long Mahila Suraksha Yatra in 2018 against increasing incidents of crime against
women.
