Climate Solutions
The Climate Pledge is a commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040. Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge with Global Optimism in 2019, and became the first company to sign the Pledge. The Climate Pledge brings together the world’s top companies to accelerate joint action, cross-sector collaboration, and responsible change.
Innovating Products & Services
In 2022, we committed to making AWS water positive by 2030. That means we’ll return more water to communities and the environment than we use in our data center operations. To do this, we’re increasing the use of sustainable water sources, improving water use efficiency across our operations, reusing water as much as possible, and supporting water replenishment projects for communities and the environment around the world.
Communities
In November 2022, we made a $53 million commitment to help address gender inequity in climate tech start-ups. This includes a $50 million commitment through The Climate Pledge Fund’s new Female Founder Initiative. We also committed $3 million to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Climate Gender Equity Fund.
Protecting Natural Resources
In 2021, we helped create the Lowering Emissions by Accelerating Forest finance (LEAF) Coalition which has mobilized over $1 billion in corporate and government finance to protect tropical rainforests around the world. In 2022, during COP27, four Brazilian states signed Letters of Intent to participate in the Coalition, bringing participating tropical forest jurisdictions to nine.
Innovating Products & Services
