Insert & arrange text, shapes, & lines in Vids (Workspace Labs)

Important: This article refers to Google Workspace Labs, which is an invite only program for users to try new AI Features. To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open Google Vids. A window to help you start creating in Vids will appear if you have access. Learn where you can use Workspace Labs features.

You can add text, shapes, lines, and other objects to your scenes in Google Vids.

Add text or objects to a scene

To insert texts, shapes or lines to a scene in a video:

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.

  2. Select the scene where you want to add a text box or object.
  3. From the sidebar, select Shape & Line for shapes and lines or Text for text boxes . Click the object you want to insert.
    1. You can also access this option in the top level menu by, clicking Insert and then Text box or Shape & Line.

To remove texts, shapes or lines to a scene in a video:

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.

  2. Select the text box or object you want to remove.
  3. In the menu at the top, click Edit.
  4. Click Delete.

Tip: You can also select the text box or object, then press Delete.

Arrange & align objects in a scene

To arrange objects on a scene’s canvas:

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.
  2. Select the scene where you want to arrange an object.
  3. At the top, click Arrange.
  4. Choose from these options:
  • Order: Put the object behind or in front of text, other objects, or images.
  • Align: When you select multiple objects, you can align their edges.
  • Distribute: When you select 3 or more objects, you can evenly distribute the space between them.
  • Center on page: Center objects vertically or horizontally in a scene.
  • Rotate: Change the orientation of an object.
  • Group: Lock multiple objects together to make them easier to move around and format.

To change the size or rotation of objects on a scene’s canvas:

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.
  2. Select the scene with the object or text box you want to change.
  3. Click the object or text box.
  4. Click on the object and then click in the floating toolbar or in the menu bar, click Format and then Format options.
  5. In the format options side panel click Size & rotation.
    1. Tip: You can also customize additional formatting in the format options side panel.
  6. Make changes to the object or text box.

Tip: To keep the height and width proportions when you resize an object, select Lock aspect ratio.

Important: To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, you will permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.
