comment If microwave ovens run at 2.4 GHz, what is the long-term effect on living tissue of exposure to this frequency, but with a thousand times less energy?
"Microwaves are non-ionizing radiation which means they do not break chemical bonds." You break chemical bonds regularly on a stove, in an oven or a toaster, and neither uses ionizing radiation for that.

comment send mail with empty from header field
Are you talking about the "From:" header or the "MAIL FROM" SMTP command? The first one is arbitrary and may be empty (but mail servers may refuse mails without it), but the second one is mandatory to send mail.

comment Does the use of AI make someone more intelligent?
@TimC I like your answer and mostly agree with it, but I would not exclude potential future AIs that might be able to improve human thinking and reasoning. Software like ChatGPT is focused on "simply" answering questions, but why should there be no AI that tries to be more like a teacher and just asks the user the right questions to make them think in new ways?

comment Why is the question "Is there free will?", and not, “What is free will?"
@Johan The reference would be "daraus," literally "from that." It is not clear what it references, probably something in the precending sentence. Concerning "developing itself" vs. "becoming" you might be right, I am not sure and might be missing a nuance. "Freedom of the will" might not be idiomatic, but the original also does not use "freier Wille," which would be the idiomatic equivalent for "free will." I suppose the author wanted to stress the notion of freedom here. I have to admit that the original also reads odd to me, but that is not rare for philosophical texts.

Be aware that the definition of AI used here is largely based on the software currently labeled AI (with its shortcomings concerning hallucinations. This is not comparable with systems called "AI" from years ago (expert systems, chess computers), some of which were provable correct in their answers, and probably neither with future AI systems which might be based on totally different architectures than the currently prevailing deep learning models.

Taking the avatar of @HDE226868 into consideration, this would be a great What-if question and answer.

@Johan I am a native German speaker and I do not think the translation could be improved. Which does not mean that I fully understand it (in either German or English).

comment How to deal with students who regularly ignore my ban on using laptops in the classroom?
@ChrisH I agree that it depends. I would always prefer a keyboard device as my handwriting is not great, and a slow tablet is no fun to use with a stylus. My wife admittedly has an iPad Pro and uses GoodNotes, so it is a major investment but a very satisfying experience for her.

I disagree with the notion that tablets are not useful to take notes in classes. My wife is exclusively using her tablet and stylus for notetaking. She is not a bit slower than with a paper notebook and has better capabilities for adding images and references and later re-organization. Her (Windows) notebook is mainly used for Office documents.

@Sifro I really hope that server with sshd from 2014 is not accessible from the Internet.
