Venom: The Last Dance is an upcoming film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is a sequel to Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. It is the fifth installment in the Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The film is set to be released on October 25, 2024.[1]

The film is directed by Kelly Marcel and stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, Juno Temple as Dr. Payne, Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen, Stephen Graham as Patrick Mulligan/Toxin, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rhys Ifans and Alanna Ubach in undisclosed roles.

Synopsis[]

In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance.[2]

In August 2018, Tom Hardy confirmed he had signed on to do a trilogy, and that he was open to other projects.[6]

In September 2021, following the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, director Andy Serkis expressed interest in making a third film.[7]

In October 2021, Tom Holland revealed that he and Amy Pascal had discussed a potential reprise of his Spider-Man role in future Venom sequels.[8] In December Pascal revealed that they were in the planning stages of Venom 3.[9]

On April 26, 2022, during CinemaCon, Sony Pictures Entertainment revealed a new logo for Venom 3 and confirmed the movie was in development.[10]

In June 2022, Tom Hardy revealed he would write the movie alongside Kelly Marcel.[11]

In October 2022, Deadline revealed that Kelly Marcel would be directing the film. It was also revealed that Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Hutch Parker, Kelly Marcel and Tom Hardy would be producers.[12]

In November 2022, Andy Serkis subsequently stated that he couldn't return for the third film due to being busy with his upcoming adaptation of Animal Farm, which had previously been delayed before he took on Venom: Let There Be Carnage.[13]

In January 2023, it was reported that the filming would last from June to September of the same year in England.[14]

In February 2023, Tom Hardy confirmed that the film was in pre-production.[15]

In April 2023, Deadline reported that Juno Temple had joined the film in an undisclosed role.[16]

In May 2023, Deadline reported that Chiwetel Ejiofor had joined the film in an undisclosed role.[17]

In June 2023, Variety reported that the film was scheduled for an October 2024 release.[18]

In July 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that production of the film had been shut down due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA Strike and that it would resume production after the strike was resolved.[19] Deadline later reported that the film was scheduled to be released on July 12, 2024, despite the 2023 SAG-AFTRA Strike.[20]

In November 2023, Deadline reported that the film had been pushed back from July 12, 2024 to November 8, 2024.[21]

In February 2024, Deadline reported that Clark Backo had been cast in an undisclosed role.[4]

On March 12, 2024, Variety revealed that it was announced that Venom 3 had been retitled to Venom: The Last Dance and that the film had been pushed forward to October 25, 2024.[1]

On June 3, 2024, the official trailer was released for the film, while also announcing that Peggy Lu and Stephen Graham would return to reprise their roles as Mrs. Chen and Patrick Mulligan and that Rhys Ifans, Alanna Ubach, and Ivo Nandi joined the cast in undisclosed roles.[2]
