Below are some useful links to make your time here simpler.

If you make a short article please mark it with {{stub}}, our guideline is here.

Would you kindly explain what you find wrong with the Grindu River article. What is different from this article compared to the other over 1000 articles in the Category:Rivers in Romania? If this is contrary to what the simple english wikipedia is about I will immediately stop from posting other articles. I did not start this project from the first place, but was simply trying to have the information consistent with that of the other wikipedias. But I would at least expect the courtesy of being informed of what the objections are. Afil (talk) 19:43, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi there

[change | change source]

Hello there, welcome to Simple English wikipedia. It is sometimes useful to have links to the same artcle in other languages, called interwiki links. So when you create articles, don't forget to add a link to another language, for example French. Have fun editing --Eptalon (talk) 22:31, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I was going to ask for the same thing but Eptalon was faster (again), I'll try to make the interwiki links for those created already but if you would please add at least a link to one other language when you create new articles I'd be very grateful. JurgenG (talk) 07:54, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

New articles

[change | change source]

Since you appear to be creating articles en masse, please make sure you write in an encyclopedic style. "It's" isn't encyclopedic - use "it is". And please add a space between the population number and the year. Thank you. Majorly talk 18:19, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm curious, what does Yotcmdr stand for? :P Kennedy (talk) 20:32, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Ok. Yotcmdr (talk) 17:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject:Video games

[change | change source]

Hi, I have found your name on the project page User:A Link to the Past/WikiProject Video games. I have an interest in this topic myself and have done much work on wiki articles related to video games so I have added my name to the list and I have started a vote on Wikipedia:Simple talk to have the project approved and moved out to its proper place WP:Video games. I am announcing this to all members and asking you to come and vote your support if possible. G Luck ~ R.T.G 02:38, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Filter (internet)

[change | change source]

Are you saying that you are using your bot to revert my edits because you disagree with the content? That is a misuse of a bot. It is certainly completely out of order to template my page with vandalism warnings over it. This is a collaborative project, the correct action is to discuss the disagreement (if there is one) on the article talk page. You need to explain what it is you do not like about my edits. SpinningSpark 11:54, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for being so sharp with you, I thought it was your bot. I am devasted that you think my contribution is not simple enough, I spent a lot of time carefully rewording it so that it was simple to my eyes. Can you start a discussion on the article talk page and explain what you think is wrong? If we work together on it we should be able to make it into a good article. SpinningSpark 12:04, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that all looks great now. But can you make any new comments on the article talk page? It's better than all this to and fro on our own talk pages. It's on my watchlist, so I won't miss it. SpinningSpark 13:11, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Roquefort?

[change | change source]

Hello there, the French soft cheese with the name (at Roquefort) is produced in Roquefort-sur-Soulzon, near Millau. Apart from the cheese, lists 4 communes currently named Roquefort (in Gers, Landes, Lot (integrated into another commune), Lot-et-Garonne and Seine-Maritime departments), apart from that, we seem to have another 7 or 8 where Roquefort is part of the name (like Roquefort-sur-... Roquefort-de(s)-..., Roquefort-le(s)-...); I was st wondering if you are interesting in creating all of them (as well as a disambig page, after moving Roquefort to Roquefort cheese? --Eptalon (talk) 15:26, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Warnings

[change | change source]

I noticed that here here you told a user not to create 'stupid pages'. This is not really appropriate. A better thing to say would have been 'bad pages' or better yet, use a template from the list that is here. Cheers, FSM Noodly? 23:00, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Can you upload the Simple News logo to Commons under a higher resolution? If you'll look at the examples below, Simple News is pixellated slighty, which affects reading and makes it look unprofessional.

Wikicup stuff!

[change | change source]

Hey Yotcmdr!

Ok, first of all, lets do the Sitenotice.

Go to MediaWiki:Sitenotice, and replace whatever is there with

{| align="center" style="text-align:center;font-size:1em;"
|-
| align="center"| '''''Sign up for the [[Wikipedia:Wikicup/2009|2009]] [[Wikipedia:Wikicup|Wikicup]]!'''''
|}

Feel free to change the message. Then, increment MediaWiki:Sitenotice id by one - so it should become 1.

Finally, change MediaWiki:Anonnotice with

, to stop the notice appearing to IPs - they cannot enter anyway.

I'll do the next stage after that ;)

BG7even 13:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok, have I done it right? Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 13:52, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
MediaWiki:Sitenotice_id should simply be "1", nothing else. You have added the Notice again! Same with MediaWiki:Anonnotice - this should be

, as logged out users don't need to see the notice. Thanks, BG7even 13:56, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Haha, I got muddle up completly then! Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 13:57, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

How Could You delete Something i was in the process of completing?

[change | change source]

You can't really complain about 'notability' for an incomplete page (RE: Zane zalis)

Sorry, but there isn't even a page at the english wikipedia, the subject isn't notable. It doesn't get any good hits in google either. Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 17:37, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

on the rule for here it states "Don't be afraid to start and improve articles! If your changes are not perfect, they can always be fixed by other editors." so how come i cannot start a page and possibly gain notability.

If the title itself, already isn't notable, how do you want the rest to be notable. Do you wish to have the article undeleted, so you can expand it. Then if it isn't notable, I'll delete it again. Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 17:44, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

And I redeleted it under G3 (vandalism). The bit on this person being the mentor of two video game characters (Duke Nukem and Max Payne) and a realy bad pun (Cap Pachino) was enough to me beleive it was purely vandalism. -- Creol(talk) 18:12, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Meter or Metre

[change | change source]

I think you being a little British biased right there, I not trying personally attack you, it just my opinion, I changed it cause I thought it was easier to read for the the benefit of the community, I'm not being American biased with it, i just think it's the better way to go in this case.-- CM16Merry Christmas!! 19:29, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

e/cActually, I think that in this case the "English" spelling is better. The wiki is an English wiki, and it's an international topic - British English is used outside of England, American not so much. Also, readers who do not have english as their first language may get confused. Thanks, BG7even 19:32, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, even if I prefer british english, I know for a fact that american english is tought in business schools. I don't know, maybe ask at ST. Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 19:37, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Its not a policy here but on en.wiki this is covered by w:WP:ENGVAR which says if the subject is most closely identified with one nationality say British then use that spelling. It goes on to say however, that if there is no such close association that you should go with whatever the original english variant was used on the page. And that all words on the page should match that variant. So basically it comes down to use what was there first. -Djsasso (talk) 20:01, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Exactly what I said. Thanks for link. Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 20:02, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Maybe would should adopt that policy ehre cause it would solve so much.-- CM16Merry Christmas!! 20:10, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Ok, take it to simple talk. Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 20:12, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey Yotcmdr,

Just thought I'd ask if you could review hooks on the DYK process with the symbols it more ;) I know it's a bit cheeky, but it's the only way it won't go stale. I can't approve my own hooks, or hooks i've changed, and also if/when I look at other people's hooks, they require a second "yes" before we move them across.

Thanks,

I thought I used them quite a lot (maybe not enough for the almost one). I'll make an effort. Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 20:03, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Hehe, you do ;) I'm just saying a bit more, especially with that London hook - you commented, but I go no signal ;) BG7even 20:04, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey Yotcmdr,

Could you possibly change the entry at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage for "GoblinBot" to "GoblinBot1"? This will enable me to deliver Simple News today - currently it would have to be done manually, as it's not recognised as a Bot.

Thanks,

Done. Yotcmdr Sign up for the wikicup =talk= 10:03, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
