For questions about the Eldritch Knight, a class archetype found in D&D that typically represents a Fighter that also has spellcasting capabilities.

Eldritch Knights are a recurring class archetype found in D&D that typically represents a Fighter that also has spellcasting capabilities. This tag should be used for such classes, especially if they are specifically named "Eldritch Knight".

  • The Eldritch Knight was first introduced formally to D&D with the Eldritch Knight Prestige Class in D&D 3.5e. A qualifying character taking the class must be proficient in all martial weapons and capable of casting 3rd level Arcane spells. Additional levels gained in this class directly improve the Spellcasting abilities of their base Spellcasting class, while also gaining better hit dice than most Arcane Spellcasters are otherwise normally capable of.
  • In 4th Edition, Eldritch Knights were added as part of the core game, as a Paragon Path for the Knight class.
  • In 5th Edition, Eldritch Knight is a fighter subclass that permits them to learn wizard spells and gain some unique features while still continuing to progress as a fighter. Eldritch Knights in 5e are partial spellcasters for multiclassing purposes, gaining the equivalent of a single spellcasting level for every 3 levels gained as an Eldritch Knight.
