I have discovered that while I am doing certain activities, fully immersed in them, I am inclined to perform other activities, as well. Those other activities, come naturally to me and they do not seem to compromise productivity of performing the former, just on the contrary.

Some examples:

  • repetitive manual (motor) activities, e.g. driving a car/ cooking/ dish-washing> painting/ etc, pair quite well with talking with someone or listen to radio;
  • talking over the phone and doodling on paper;
  • the proverbial singing in the shower;
  • solving math problems and drawing things on paper (more specific things unlike the "random" doodling while on the phone);
  • attending lectures and daydreaming :)
  • etc.

My questions is, what are the scientific explanations for such natural dual task pairs and does every type of task have its pair?

    $\begingroup$ I see. It's been unanswered for quite some time. I might just dig into this and see if I can't come up with an acceptable answer for you. $\endgroup$ Commented Aug 24, 2022 at 14:20
