    When I see questions by entirely new or recent users, I tend to give them more slack. But when someone seems to ask a lot of questions either going towards the same poorly defined thing, or just a lot of hasty questions, I feel less charitable. That said, I only downvote, vote to close or flag if something seems really off-base, negative or abusive. I upvote a lot of everything else.

That down-voted question takes a lot of words just to ask: What is Virtue?

Many clever and sophisticated users of the site prefer to vote based on popularity than to help others (pity the thought). Suck it up or go away, that's everyone's dilemma when on-line people decide they are better dealt with as if degenerates.
