Description

  • Product release goals
    • Provide a new wikitext editor which lets users edit in wikitext and visually with the same interface/design.
    • It should be intuitive to an editor, with workflows obvious, and give a way to switch between editors without getting lost.
    • [Initially] Released as a beta feature for logged-in, experienced editors; should be understandable for them, and (at least) no worse than the current editor once they are familiar with it.
  • Specific test tasks
  • Tech prereqs/dependencies
    • Main features completed
    • Server set up with test content and a stable, good-to-go version for testing
  • Types of tests
    • Heuristic test
    • User remote testing
  • Test population
    • Existing users if possible
    • New users (but OK to wait for after the Beta)
  • Intended dates
    • late August: DR consider feature
    • early September: Beta Feature readied, altered subject to DR feedback, announced
    • ~ mid September: Beta Feature released
    • ~ mid November: Secondary updates to Beta Feature released
  • Time availability
    • I don't know what goes here.

@Jdforrester-WMF couple quick questions from me and @dchen.

  • what do you mean by 'DR consider feature': does this mean you want us to start getting ready to test in late August?
  • do you anticipate that there will be a pre-release version (pre-Beta feature) of this that we can test on the beta cluster. Either a heuristic eval, or a 3-5 person user study? If so, when do you expect that to be ready?

Yes.

Not on Beta Cluster but on its own server (per DR before that Beta Cluster changes too often); that's:

  • Server set up with test content and a stable, good-to-go version for testing

Which is not yet done, but hopefully will be complete very soon.

Either a heuristic eval, or a 3-5 person user study? If so, when do you expect that to be ready?

ASAP. Sorry for the delay.

Thanks @Jdforrester-WMF I'm going to start gathering a sample of new editors to contact for the study today (T143709). @dchen will be performing the user study, so I've assigned T141068 to her accordingly.
