🎉 Happy First Birthday to Peckish! 🚀 It's been a transformative year, both personally and professionally. Time flies! Peckish has turned one, and we would like to share five lessons we've learned along the way…. Here they are: 👥 You don’t need a huge team to get sht done** Since day zero we’ve maintained a very, very lean team. Limited resources forced us to sharpen our focus, though, admittedly, we probably still built more than necessary. When we did eventually need more dev support, we looked towards interns. The interns who came on board were exceptional and I would choose any of them for a full-time position over an experienced software engineer I've never worked with. Shout-out to Jules and Hugo, whose contributions to Peckish V0 are still integral to our operations today. 🤝Customer Collaboration is key A big shout-out to Poké Perfect & Gerrit Jan Witzel, our early customer who took a chance on us. It was not just about selling; it was about building a relationship and deeply understanding their business and challenges. Finding early customers who are not just looking for an off-the-shelf solution but are willing to work with you to help build towards your shared vision are rare and priceless. 🌎 Early Geographic Expansion worked Diving into the UK market while still establishing ourselves in Amsterdam was a bold but successful move. This expansion secured some exciting partnerships (that we’re looking forward to announcing soon) and sped up our journey toward revenue. 👊 Network is everything I always said yes to an intro - regardless of whether I saw an immediate outcome from the interaction. These conversations have led to both long-standing partnerships and introductions to paying clients. Participating in networks like Antler Netherlands, From Start-to-Table, and Tech On Toast has also been instrumental in meeting like-minded individuals. 💰 We probably tried to raise too soon Trying to raise in a bear market when still pre-revenue, pre-product-market-fit proved to be a lot harder than expected! Although it led to some insightful discussions, it did take away 3-months of time that could have been spent on building. If I could go back, I would do it differently — I would have still had those conversations but I would have condensed it into one or two weeks max and framed them as relationship building or intro calls vs fully-fledged fundraising discussions. Although we’re nowhere near the end of our roller-coaster ride, it has indeed been a transformative year, both personally and professionally! Let's unite hospitality!! On Feb 6th @service takes place at BrewDog Waterloo. Before we set this event up, we wanted to achieve five main objectives: 1. Create an event that anyone can attend at any time, including operators and suppliers. We all have a shared goal: to succeed and grow our amazing industry. Why block the people who supply it? 2. Enable the attendees to be able to work around the event, including co-working, wifi, food, and drink. Don't cancel meetings, host them at the event, dip in and out, and spend the day with us, and make it accessible by NOT charging for entry. 3. Bring together the most interesting and insightful speakers and encourage honest and sometimes challenging conversations. 4. To have fun, not take ourselves too seriously, and represent our industry in the way that I remember working in it—hard work, inspiring, great fun, and a little chaotic. 5. Convince James Brown that we need his venue!! So with the help of these brilliant partners: OpenTable, NFS Restaurant Technology, @Pepper, Grubtech, Dojo, Toggle, Airship, Partner Tech Corp., Sentiment Search, HGEM, Redcat, Tech On Toast & Otolo this is happening!! People are traveling from as far as Portland USA, Amsterdam, Ghent and Dubai to attend, and over 700 people are registered. We have panels all day; in between that bowling, live podcasts are being recorded, masterclasses focused on problem-solving in our industry, food and drink served by our new family (they are a great team) at BrewDog Waterloo, Coffee from Grind, and Missenden Abbey are even hosting a lecture with us on the day so their students can experience a hospitality event.
