In 2020 – the latest year for which a global estimate is available by the UN - 23.3% of #youth worldwide were not in employment, education, or training. These numbers continue to grow. Thoughtfully designed apprenticeships, internships and volunteer programmes can be gateways into the labour market for first-time jobseekers and recent graduates. 🎓 Through our TUI Academy Montenegro initiative, together with UNICEF Nederland, we’re dedicated to changing this narrative in #Montenegro, where youth unemployment rate reaches 35%. The TUI Academy Montenegro provides an #educational and skills programme for young people, and supports their stable transition from school to work, helping them #progress to independent adulthood and preparing them for the labour market. 💡 Today’s young people are the #leaders of tomorrow. Let's introduce you to one of the team members that helps us protect various #wildlife species in Costa Rica - Dennis. 👏 Over the last five years, Dennis has been working tirelessly with Work With Nature and Adopt Rainforest to help #preserve wildlife species and the precious Costa Rican forests. Dennis is also a father to three children and an avid explorer who loves learning about new cultures. He says that one of his favourite thing about participating in our TUI Wildlife Costa Rica project is meeting visitors from all around the world and explaining the importance of preserving the wonderful #nature of Costa Rica to them! 🐦🐸🌴 In honour of International Day of the Tropics, he shares his thoughts on the importance of nature conservation. 👉 #InternationalDayOfTheTropics

Did you know that in Dubrovnik, #Croatia, the amount of visitors every year equals 36 tourists for every local resident? 🗺️🧳   Dubrovnik, a city rich in history and #culture, is a top destination for global travellers. While the surge in visitors has elevated the tourism sector, it has also raised living expenses for the locals which particularly affects the city's #artisans.   To address this challenge, we’re launching TUI Colourful Cultures Croatia. Today is Sustainable Gastronomy Day, and this year, we’re highlighting the impact of sustainable #farming practices on local communities. 🌱 Meet Maria de Lourdes, lovingly known as ‘Mãe’ by friends and colleagues. 👋 Having first worked with Milot Hydroponics from 2005 to 2010, Maria de Lourdes faced a challenging job loss due to a devastating crop plague. But 12 years later, the TUI Field to Fork Programme brought her back to farming at Milot Hydroponics. "Before I returned to Milot, I was unemployed. The TUI Field to Fork project has allowed me to not only guarantee income for my family but also provide education for my four daughters," she shares. 💬 Many places around the world face extreme challenges in growing crops due to infertile soil. This negatively impacts not only accessibility to fresh and healthy food but also income opportunities for local #communities. Our TUI Field to Fork Cape Verde initiative is dedicated to supporting hydroponic food production on #Sal. Did you know that 38,800 plastic bottles end up in the #Mediterranean every minute? 🥤 As part of our Destination Zero Waste Cyprus project, we’ve been promoting plastic #pollution reduction on the local beaches. And today, on World Oceans Day, we have some exciting news to share! We’ve officially opened two more plastic-free beaches in #Cyprus, making 8 plastic-free beaches in total! 🏖️ These beaches are now equipped with: 📍 water stations for refillable bottles 📍 designated smoking areas to prevent litter 📍 beautiful murals created by local schoolchildren using recycled plastic bottles The students later shared the amazing stories behind their artwork and participated in a #beach clean. We were also honoured to have Antonia Theodosiou, Environmental Commissioner of Cyprus, and Kostas Koumis, Deputy Minister of Tourism of Cyprus join us for the celebration. Forests cover over a third of the Earth’s surface, making them a lifeline for #communities and #wildlife. 🌳🌲🌴 But despite their importance, our planet is losing its #forests at an alarming rate. And whilst we can’t turn back time, we can come together and take action to promote #reforestation activities and create awareness for nature protection and for the well-being of our planet. Whilst studying Biology at university, Ezgi started volunteering at a #marine mammal rehabilitation facility, where she took care of two Mediterranean monk seal pups, who had been separated from their mother. Ezgi describes this encounter as a lifechanging moment in her career. Her interest in the Mediterranean monk seal, which began during those days, turned into a professional career. As part of the TUI Sea the Change Turkey initiative, she now plays an important role in the monitoring, #conservation and academic #research of Mediterranean monk seals at the Mediterranean Conservation Society. 👩🔬💡 “By working together, we can secure the survival of this amazing species“, says Ezgi. 💙 Akdeniz Koruma Derneği

Only around 100 Mediterranean #seals live on the coasts of #Turkey and according to the Red List, the species is considered threatened. To help promote Mediterranean seal #conservation and mitigate the negative effects of human activity, we’re launching our TUI Sea the Change Programme in Turkey, in partnership with the Mediterranean Conservation Society. The initiative focuses on coastal cave #monitoring activities and data collection in the Sarıgerme region, trains more than 700 locals in marine conservation, and works with local tour operators, hotels and schools to raise #awareness for protecting threatened species. 🤝 Learn more by clicking the link in the comments. 🔗 Akdeniz Koruma Derneği

It’s World Turtle Day! 🐢 And what a better way to celebrate our flippered friends than by introducing new TUI Turtle Aid projects - an initiative set up to protect endangered and vulnerable sea #turtles, especially around nesting beaches. TUI Turtle Aid projects in Cape Verde, Greece, Turkey and Kenya will: 🐢 protect almost 500,000 sea turtle hatchlings through beach monitoring and nest relocation. 💡 raise awareness to more than 200,000 visitors and locals in marine #conservation and turtle-friendly tourism. 🏅 introduce a global, turtle-friendly #certification scheme for beachfront businesses across these four holiday destinations.
