Making autonomous shipping reality
Over ons
The ultimate trained captain. Organisations that have a need for autonomous ships, require an auto-pilot (AI) that is extensively trained in real world situations. Training in the real world is both time consuming and costly not to mention the operational resources involved. Our customers can implement an auto-pilot faster and at lower costs with our solution: Captain AI Captain AI reduces the need for real world training through virtual simulation.

Newsflash from our system integrator Periskal serving the inland shipping market: Periskal, Europe's largest player in the field of River Information Services and navigation software, and Captain AI, a pioneer in autonomous shipping technology, present the first experiences with collision warning based on radar and AI in inland shipping. By using the river radar on board – the installation of expensive exotic sensors is avoided. Captain AI's AI-controlled radar tracker is used to convert the radar image into a synthetic variant in which artificial intelligence ensures the translation into recognizable objects such as ships with course and ahead. Go visit them today at the Maritime Industry Exhibition the Netherlands – Periskal booth B112 Image: radar image with detection of moving vessels, moored vessel and bridges.

🚤 Safety First at Watertaxi Rotterdam with Captain AI's Collision Warning System 🎯 Watertaxi Rotterdam, in partnership with Captain AI, has taken another step towards enhancing the safety of their water taxis. The focus here is on preventing collisions and ensuring a safe journey for everyone on board. With the help of Captain AI's advanced AI-based radar tracker combined with AIS data, other ships are automatically detected, tracked, and their behavior predicted. This innovation provides timely warnings for potential collisions, enabling watertaxi captains to respond more quickly and efficiently. Real-Time Insights via Captain AI Cloud: Fleet managers now have access to real-time data from sensors installed on board. This means they can not only monitor their fleet better, but also offer targeted training to their captains in the future. The project is currently in a test phase and is expected to be completed by the end of March. In the video several test runs can be seen, including the detection of a vessel that is sailing without AIS signal, but is detected with our AI-based Radar Tracker. The radar used is a Simard Halo 20.

Captain AI and VSTEP Simulation are revolutionizing Maritime Machine Vision by leveraging the Nautis simulator alongside Generative AI to generate infinite datasets for Machine Vision AI models! This collaboration combines VSTEP's state-of-the-art simulation capabilities with Captain AI's expertise in autonomous navigation and situational awareness, overcoming the traditional data collection methods' limitations such as stereo cameras and LiDAR. While these methods are effective, they often incur high costs, complex setups, and fail to fully capture critical edge cases. This breakthrough is a significantly more cost-effective and scalable alternative to real world data collection. “We're pioneering a method for generating accurate 3D spatial data for single-view cameras” said the CTO Gerard Kruisheer “setting a new benchmark for efficiency and simplicity in data collection”. This advancement will underpin Captain AI’s cutting-edge 3D bounding box detection model which is currently uder development and promises to be future foundation of maritime safety and operational intelligence.
