Announcing keynote speakers coming to MICCAI 2024

We are excited to announce that we will be welcoming the following distinguished scientists as keynote speakers to present at MICCAI 2024.
On Day 1 (October 7), Dr. Alexandra J. Golby, Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiology at Harvard Medical School, will be speaking about “Innovation in Image Guided Neurosurgery: A Vision Towards Clinical Impact and Equity”.
On Day 2 (October 8), Dr. Michael Bronstein, DeepMind Professor of AI at the University of Oxford, will present on “Geometric Deep Learning – from Euclid to Drug Design”
On Day 3 (October 9), we will be welcoming Dr. Aisha Walcott, Senior Staff Research Scientist and co-lead of Google Research Africa who will be discussing “Driving innovation through collaboration: transforming healthcare in Africa”

October 7 (Day 1): Dr. Alexandra J. Golby, Harvard Medical School
Topic: Innovation in Image Guided Neurosurgery: A Vision Towards Clinical Impact and Equity
Bio: Alexandra Golby is a Professor of Neurosurgery and a Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and holds the Haley Distinguished Chair in the Neurosciences at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is also the Principal Investigator of the Golby Lab, a surgical brain mapping laboratory.
Dr. Golby's research and clinical practice focus on image-guided neurosurgery, particularly on patients with brain tumors and epilepsy, and especially those with lesions which are associated with critical brain structures. Her translational research is focussed on advanced imaging and image guidance to improve care for patients undergoing intracranial neurosurgery. She has developed numerous technologies to help guide presurgical planning and intraoperative decision making.
Dr. Golby is also a recent Fulbright Global Scholar pursuing work to foster interdisciplinary collaborations between technical experts and clinicians in Rwanda and Morocco.
October 8 (Day 2): Dr. Michael Bronstein, University of Oxford
Topic: Geometric Deep Learning – from Euclid to Drug Design
Bio: Michael Bronstein is the DeepMind Professor of AI at the University of Oxford. His previous positions include head of Graph Learning Research at X (formerly Twitter), professor at Imperial College London and visiting appointments at Stanford, MIT and Harvard University.
He is the recipient of many awards including the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award, Turing World-Leading AI Research Fellowship and the Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal. He has also received five RC grants, two Google Faculty Research Awards and two Amazon AWS ML Research Awards.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Bronstein founded multiple start-up companies, including Novafora, Invision (acquired by Intel in 2012), Videocites and Fabula AI (acquired by X in 2019). He is also the Chief Scientist at VantAI and scientific advisor at Recursion Pharmaceuticals.
October 9 (Day 3): Dr. Aisha Walcott, Google Research Africa
Topic: Driving innovation through collaboration: Transforming healthcare in Africa
Bio: Aisha Walcott is a Senior Staff Research Scientist and co-lead of Google Research Africa, with sites in Accra, Ghana and Nairobi, Kenya. She has over a decade of experience working in Africa and leading teams to develop technologies that leverage AI and computing to address some of Africa’s most pressing challenges. Dr. Walcott is also leading and driving Google Research Africa’s food security agriculture research, where she and her team are developing AI technology and tools that address food insecurity in Africa and globally.
Prior to joining Google, Dr. Walcott was a senior technical staff member at IBM Research Africa and led projects in developing AI tools for a range of areas including global health and healthcare, water management and access, as well as mobility and transportation. Currently, she serves as the Associate Vice President for IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Robotics and Automation Society’s Technical Education Program, is on the board for the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) doctorial research program in data science and was recently on the program committee for the Second US-Africa Frontiers in Science programs by the National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine (NASEM). Lastly, she is the workshops co-chair for the International Conference on Learning and Representations 2024 (ICLR’24).
Dr. Walcott earned her PhD in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT with a focus on robotics. Her work has led to several recognitions, over 35 patents and over 30 publications.
