Proofreading issue on tr.ws

Status:    Not done

'The code for navigating to the page namespace in the main namespace disappears when changing the page list in the index page. For example this https://imgur.com/a/izm1nh6. We can't solve this. And the regarded change its here" --Satirdan kahraman (talk) 13:02, 12 October 2020 (UTC)--

@Satirdan kahraman: I am not fully comprehending what you are requesting. Are you saying that you had the page numbering with transcluded wikisource works, and they have disappeared? Or are you asking why you don't have them?

If you have implemented English Wikisource's dynamic page numbering and it is not working for you, then you also need to read the section about loading the dependencies in s:MediaWiki:Common.js, and the other instructions in that page about what we are doing to get displays and section separations. You will also need to configure for your namespaces where you don't wish to display the configuration components.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:31, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Also noting that if the case of you are introducing page numbering then importing the enWS page will have some issues as that is going to have English language labelling, and it is not readily customisable with an i18n layer. If this is something that we need to consider, then we may need to get help from WMF (@Jon (WMF): about the best way to do some i18n labels introduced and managed.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:40, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: hi. We have dynamic page numbering and it is working properly. But we changed <pagelist /> on 'Index:' namespace as <pagelist 1=cover 2=frontispiece 3= preface /> etc. disappered dynamic page numbering on main namespace. --Satirdan kahraman (talk) 11:55, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
@Satirdan kahraman: Guessing that it is all related to the same issue, and that GOIII did some coding within the script to manage how they present on top of the base components of numbering in raw ProofreadPage, overlays, channel width, skipping numbers, etc. As you expand the page numbering beyond a certain size what you have isn't adapting suitably. It probably requires the other components previously mentioned to display properly. Too long ago for me to remember, and some of the css is black magic that was undocumented when it was added.

Personal opinion, stick to page numbers, and forget t he labels, I think that they are an abomination when they display rather than the true page numbers and keeping things simple.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:19, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Supplementary: It is a display issue as the code is there

Common.css change on si.Wiktionary

Status:    Done

Please move the content from wikt:si:පරිශීලක:Lee/vector.css to wikt:si:මාධ්‍යවිකි:Common.css. I hold a temporary sysop flag on that project, but I do not have interface administrator rights. --Lee (talk) 10:01, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

@Lee: Please use Templatestyle for Templates 𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 14:11, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
This is related to wikidata:Talk:Q5296#Talking_about_Wiktionaries. Is there another way to do what is mentioned here? Lee (talk) 14:48, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
@Lee:My comment was not directly related to the request. I meant that the community should try template code to convert the Common.css code into Templatestyles, because it uses a lot of template code, it shouldn't be. I have now carried out your request. --𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 17:38, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
I think this version of the CSS came from an old version in the English Wiktionary and things are not 100% made to work for this project. I sure can agree with the point you mentioned. Also, Thanks for everything! Lee (talk) 05:52, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Issue with Infobox on nia.wikipedia

Status:    Not done

Hi, we need some help to fix the Infobox template that doesn't render properly (no table, at least no borders, and the box is not aligned right). Despite of reimporting Module:Infobox, the issue persists. Someone advised me to looked at MediaWiki:Custom.css, but I don't have permission for that (we don't have any admin at the moment) and I'm also not sure how to do that. I'm grateful for every help of solving this issue. Thanks. Slaia (talk) 11:34, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

@Slaia: It's true that enwiki common.css line 333-481 should be copied. Though, correct me if I'm wrong, this can be implemented on w:nia:Templat:Infobox/style.css and no admin rights will be required. See mw:Help:TemplateStyles for detailed manual. English Wikipedia hasn't migrated to template styles since there are tons of articles using raw infobox class, but this is not the case for most small wikis (can be verified by this and this query). --WhitePhosphorus (talk) 11:56, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you @WhitePhosphorus:, for this tips. I definitely try out this solution first. Slaia (talk) 12:03, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
@WhitePhosphorus:, it works for infobox. However there are others like mbox, ombox, ambox, cmbox, imbox, etc, which also had similar issue. Do I need to created css styles for every of those templates? How to know which part of css belongs to mbox for example? I created css styles for mbox but the issue is not yet resolved (probably there other parts of mbox styles that need to be included, but I don't know). Slaia (talk) 14:12, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
@Slaia: It looks like {{mbox}} has an "ombox" class (which you can check by inspect element). (And you forgot to add <templatestyles> and WikiBayer did that.) You may either put all the CSS rules in one page or split them like enwiki trying to do. Though as pointed out on enwiki todo page, there would be more work to do, such as adding a "child templatestyles" parameter to mbox module, to allow "child" templates (which transclude mbox) to have their own styles. So, if your community feels this method too complicated to implement, we could still edit common.css for you. --WhitePhosphorus (talk) 16:44, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
@WhitePhosphorus Common.css was used earlier because there was no other method. Common.css is intended for the user interface and not for templates. When we do something, we should help users to do it professional and not with outdated methods. --𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 17:39, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
@𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫, @WhitePhosphorus, thank you for your response. At the moment the error has gone. However it's still a huge challenge for a small wiki like us to identify which part of of common.css belongs to ambox and which part to mbox, and other boxes. Is there any detailed manual about this? The mw:Help:TemplateStyles doesn't mention about this.

Right to vanish: CarbonicAcid et al

Status:    Done

Several accounts posted a Synchbot request for their right to vanish:

I deleted the pages Synchbot normally handles, but the bot runs within strict limits to avoid causing any issues (e.g. it doesn't delete the global user page, user pages where the user has a block history, or user talk pages). I'm forwarding their requests here to handle the remaining pages as needed. —Pathoschild 17:48, 06 September 2020 (UTC)

In my opinion, the user pages on which local admins / the local community have not made any changes (e.g. blocked template) can be deleted.--𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 15:37, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

Google translations by User:Sandesh9822

Some of these have local admins active so just listing here for documentation and cleanup.

These are translation of English Wikipedia article: en:B. R. Ambedkar

Tool used: https://translate.google.com

This user has a history with such creations, see Wikidata item history. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 04:42, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

I am not sure what to make of this proposal. Looking at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikilegal/Copyright_for_Google_Translations I understand, that use of google translate probably does not inringe on protected copyright. Correct? -- Moreover I am not sure about the research quality of this item; he lists swwiki (the only one I am concerned here) as having 2 active admins only, which is not correct. I am not sure what this says about the whole proposal which has to be built on a very exact analysis in order to be valid. At least the swwiki version does not seem to be a 100% word-by-word takeover of google translate. - This notwithstanding the fact that we get a lot of bullshit from google-translate because the quality of en>sw is lousy if nobody invests sufficient time to correct it, so we throw out quite a bit of that stuff. Kipala (talk) 15:19, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
I agree with Kipala. --Riccardo Riccioni (talk) 05:38, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
@Kipala: Nowhere in all these articles they have properly attributes the source of content as required by the link you shared plus the quality of these machine translation is one of the issue. Moreover what is the gain spamming machine translation all over projects? ‐‐1997kB (talk) 05:51, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

ideally all of this mess should be deleted following global ban on sandesh9822. Thye were already blocked on four major projects for socking, copyvioand topic ban. Additionally there is no way to clean and make it acceptable for the contents created in such a manner that too cross wiki. QueerEcofeminist [they/them/their] 03:48, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Closed Closed Vast majority of these articles have had local edits in the intervening time. Person is notable, so I am going to leave them in place, and no one else has acted. If communities mark for deletion then we deal with them through normal process. I would suggest that in the future that if there is action to be taken then prompt action is better than a later cleanup where the communities have moved in.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

small wiki IP bot additions

Status:    Done

WikiBayer contacted other global sysops to notify that the IP bot editor was back at akWP, and it would appear that they were also at lldWP, and they have been busy at a list of smaller wikis. I have asked stewards to block the following

Though I also note that I can see edits from at least three other IPs (162.210.194.35, 178.209.42.106, 185.104.194.4 all of which smell like OPs or small range server sets) and that was not even really digging through many wikis. I think that we probably should be writing some filters to grab the edits, and possibly to stop the edits, I know that user:GeneralNotability wanted to do some GAF work, and we have special:abusefilter/196 and special:abusefilter/199 set to watch. To me it is time that we started to put absolute impediments for this LTA.

Also noting that this LTA is now also adding the data to WD.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:21, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Edit Vector.css & Monobook.css in jvwiki

Status:    Done

Hi, I need help to edit the Javanese Wikipedia mainpage interface. As per this, the mainpage is renamed from "Tepas" to "Pendhapa". The namespace is also altered to Wikipedia:, so the mainpage is moved from "Tepas" to "Wikipedia:Pendhapa". I found a problem that I have no right to edit jv:MediaWiki:Vector.css and jv:MédhiaWiki:Monobook.css, so I need help to change the word "Tepas" (line 2 to 7) into "Wikipedia:Pendhapa". Thank you! Cross-wiki LTA

Status:    Not done

Hello, on fr-wp we (RC Patrol & sysop) detected a case of long-term abuse and cross-wiki sockpuppetry. Praelongum uses many accounts to introduce fake pictures and fake news on several wikis and has done so for quite some time. So far, we've identified 15 accounts, they are active on commons, en-wiki, fr-wiki, jp-wiki and maybe more. Fr-wiki sysop all agreed to ban the user because of this LTA. But the user also edits other wikis with further pictures and probably their fake information. I guess you need the complete information, so I put it all on a personal page : User:Bédévore/Praelongum cross-wiki sockpuppets. We've found another batch tonight. Please use the information as you see fit. Best regards, Bédévore (talk) 22:56, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

@Bédévore: From looking at the account names that you have found, it predominantly seems to be the biggest of the big wikis. If there has been checkuser checks on these accounts, please have your frWP checkusers communicate their finding to the checkusers from the other wikis (they have their communication channels). It doesn't seem that the global sysops or stewards can do much as it is all on established large(r) wikis where we don't have sway with our tools.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:25, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

nothing for global sysops or stewards to do in medium or small wikis. Further work seems appropriate between stewards and checkusers however this not the forum for that activity.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:39, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Multiple article-spam on Wikinews and Wikipedia

Status:    Done

User 84.55.19.40 had created pages on "Frank Mortenson" on several Wikinews-editions. His biography was deleted in Englsh and simple, but not (yet) in pdc.wikipedia. User 84.55.19.40 has been spamming the name of "Frank Mortenson" on several projects too. Today his articles were deleted on pl.wikinews and nl.wikinews. There is still one of mine pending in French, but there are still more in various languages. My motivations in Dutch language are here (maybe Google Translate will help). We were informed on this fake news on nl.wikinews overhere. Some nice examples of the fake news around Frank Mortenson like such one up to sources (used for an article on him on pl.wikinews) like this one ([16th birthday] "Frank Mortenson has been congratulated by former US presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, ...). This is a multiproject problem and I hope I can bring it up here for help. Ymnes (talk) 11:45, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Done IP globally blocked, the article deleted. Ruslik (talk) 20:37, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: In fact I hoped for a bit more research of people experienced with it more than I. Nevertheless thanks for your interaction! What I have found more is the global usage of this image, what leads to four more articles. Meanwhile I've been attacked by this user too because I addressed the issue. He is yet blocked on en.wikipedia for apparent reasons. Ymnes (talk) 21:08, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: I've checked them now myself. From the same user are these articles: no.wikinews, fi.wikinews, ca.wikinews, fr.wikinews, and fr.wikinews. In the article on Brisbane (Australia) the IP claims that Frank Mortenson (Lithuanian singer) was called for by a hostage taker for a conversation. Which is pure fantasy. The other articles are quite uncomprehendably written, without much of a clue. All these articles are cross wiki published by this same IP number. Is it possible to ask here for the deletion at meta? Or are all these article local wiki cases? They are small Wikinews-projects, that's why I ask it here. In nl. pl. and earlier in .es & .en they were yet deleted. Ymnes (talk) 16:27, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
@Ymnes: Tag them with {{delete}} and either the local wikis will clean them up, or after some days the GS/stewards will get to them when they can.  — billinghurst sDrewth 17:17, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: Thank you, I added delete to three, on the French one I yet started a nomination of the other two. But I don't talk Catalonian, Finish nor Norwegian. Actually French not so good either :-) Ymnes (talk) 17:26, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
@Ymnes: Hah, I am horribly mono-lingual, and typically would not start a conversation. When I do it, if there is a community they will either chastise me or assist me, and that is all that you need. If the community reverts, I would say they have an active community TICK. If they delete or move, the community is active TICK. If it is just left there, then they are inactive, and it will be grabbed by the GS/atewards in the days ahead TICK. So all good, allow the process to work for you.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:14, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
