A troop transport or troop ship was a type of military-type of transport ship designated to carry military troops.

In 2371, the USS Voyager discovered a micro-wormhole that lead to the Alpha Quadrant – through which contact was made with Romulan science vessel Talvath. When it was arranged to transport the crew through the wormhole to the Talvath, its captain, Dr. Telek R'Mor stated that he would arrange for a troop ship – which could easily accommodate Voyager's crew – to join his vessel to transport them back to the Federation. (VOY: "Eye of the Needle")

During the Federation-Klingon War, the Galaxy-class USS Enterprise-D was capable of transporting over six thousand troops. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise")

In 2368, the Romulans acquired three Vulcan ships which they essentially restored and transformed into a troop convoy carrying an invasion force of over two thousand troops, bound for Vulcan. (TNG: "Unification II")

In 2370, the Maquis were in search of troop transports, among other weapon supplies, to help bolster their position in the Demilitarized Zone. That year Sakonna attempted to purchase several through Quark. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part I")

In 2374, the USS Defiant was assigned to protect a Federation troop convoy carrying over thirty thousand Federation troops. The convoy had used the Badlands to hide their movements, and required the Defiant to protect them once they emerged. (DS9: "Waltz")

In early 2375, a Starfleet transport carrying mainly Vulcan wounded requested permission to dock at a Romulan hospital on Derna, but was turned away. (DS9: "Image in the Sand")
