Star Trek: The Picard Legacy Collection Blu-ray is the Blu-ray Disc boxed collection of all Star Trek: The Next Generation/Jean-Luc Picard-centered Star Trek live-action productions. Presented as a deluxe gift set, it is essentially a repackaged edition of previously released Blu-ray versions of all the productions in question. The set was limited to 11,750 individually numbered (on a separate certificate of authenticity) copies worldwide.

While in a very few cases still being marketed as region-restricted, the releases are in actuality region-free as this has become commonplace for the Blu-ray format – also explaining the unified inclusion of subtitles and dubbed language audio tracks for all regions. For this particular release though, this became especially pertinent as the US manufactured gift set release was withheld until the last season of Star Trek: Picard was released in the Blu-ray/DVD formats in Region B in November 2023 as well, after which the set saw a near-concurrent worldwide release.

Box set contents[]

  • Star Trek: Picard - The Complete Series

This essentially concerned a repackaged reissue of the Star Trek: Picard - The Complete Series Blu-ray set, released a little earlier that year (see there for individual disc contents)

Background information[]

  • The overall thematic color scheme of the set and its contents is burgundy red, which was intentionally chosen as it alludes to the color of Picard's command uniform.
  • In Region B territories, the gift set set was simultaneously released with the Star Trek: Picard - The Final Season and Star Trek: Picard - The Complete Series home video format sets. The region-free copies of the US manufactured set slated for shipment to those territories were upon arrival simply endowed with the for the countries of destination applicable rating stickers.
  • Neither DVD nor 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray counterparts were foreseen for this release; as format, the DVD was well on its way out by the time of the release, whereas while there had been for the four films earlier that year, no 4K UHD versions were produced of the television properties. Likewise, the customary digital download options for the North-American market were not considered for this release either.
  • Customer reviews, such as those on Amazon.com [1], showed that reception of the set was rather mixed, as it was felt that the in essence "double dipping" was not worth the purchase price for those fans who had already bought the individual releases, despite the overall sense that the box itself was beautifully executed. Three additional gripes reviewers had, was that the collectables, the book excepted, were manufactured on the cheap, that it did not concern a 4K UHD release, and that the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine pilot episode, "Emissary" (in which Jean-Luc Picard had made a small, but significant appearance by setting up the premise of the then new series), was not included [2] – though it has to be noticed that a Blu-ray version of that episode did not exist. Still, it were the newcomers to the Star Trek franchise who were able to appreciate the set, precisely because it was aesthetically well executed.
